Warbird Information Exchange

The above Marine Sikorsky HRS was accepted on charge 8 August 1952. It's pictured here about 1955, while it was assigned to HMR-362 at Marine Corps Air Facility, Santa Ana, CA.

Here it is twelve years later awaiting the scrap man. It had been transferred to the USN and was struck off charge at NAS North Island, CA. on 5 September 1967 with 3802TT.

Sure would like to see one of these fly again. My dad was an aircrewman on the Navy version, H04S, during 1952 to 1955.

The museum I belong to in CA. has a H-34 Choctaw?? that is being restored for static display. I wish they could fly too , but uncle sam who gave them to us says NO so we can.t. We do have them open once a month, different ones each month. If interested site is:

There are still some flying- I heard a stranger than usual radial a few months ago(there are many T-6, Stearman, and Yak in my area, so I am used to their engines) and I looked out the window to see one going by not too far away, nor too high. Surprised me to see one, but happy none the less. Couldn't see markings, the side toward me was in shadow...
