I know that a full scale replica had been rebuilt for a museum in Romania a while ago. It was not mentioned if she would be flyable or static only.

On the other hand, the founder of the company Raymond Capel teamed with Jean Salis to purchase the Egyptian Air Force trainers (Let built Yak 11 trainers).

Various are now flying in France and UK. One at least had been rengined with an American engine.

Bearing in mind that Salis had recently converted a T-6 in a flying Zero look alike after a NA-64, it is possible that the IAR replica might be based on a T-6 frame.

I intend to go to La Ferté end of the week and will try to find more and let you know.

The first results of my researches show that the Capital of the company is of 15.245 euros, roughly 20.000 bucks (Legal minimum in France)

They are active on conversion of Let C-11.

Their demonstrator is registered F-AZIM

Hi

There are two replicas existing in Bucharest, one in Museum of army and one in museum of aviation.
During Ceausescu time, IAR crews redrawed all the aircraft from A to Z and rebuilded them with some original parts when they had some.

The IAR 80 is a funny aircraft, with italian JRB79 wings, polish PZL parts of fuselage and french Gnome et Rhone motor.

Back in the 80's we bought one of the first five Yak-52's imported into the U.S. It was at Oshkosh with a Yak-18 (CJ6A) nrext to it. You could have either one for $25 grand. They both looked pretty good and we chose the Yak-52 because of it's 340hp. on an airframe the size of a Chipmunk. It was a 1986 model built in Romania, very rugged construction It was a blast! It turns out both designs have done well on the civil market. We had never heard of either before seeing them on the flightline at Oshkosh.
I have never heard of an IAR 80, and know very little about Romania's contributions to the war. They look great, but my only interest in buying a replica would be 1) Would have to be a blast to fly and have awesome performance and airshow appeal. 2) Be a super good deal for a WW II fighter design. Say in the $175K to $300k price range. 3) Be welcomed at warbird events.
Maybe they could put an engine and accessories etc on the front from an Antonov AN-2. There are thousands of those laying around the world.

An 1830 might be more appropriate. An An-2 engine would probably be too big in diameter.

Dear all,

As promised, I met Alain Capel on Saturday.

Besides his civilian C-130 operations, he is still active in importing aircraft from the former eastern block.

The advertisement you read shoul, provisionnally, be considered as a marketing research regarding the number of potential buyers of this replica.

You will remember that Yakovlev built a few new aircraft with an Allison power plant.

A prototype is flying. I only saw a picture,s she is not in France (yet).

Aircraft will be built in metal, new parts, new avionics and as one would have expected, the selected engine is PW 1820 as on the reengined Let C-11 sold by Capel.

P&W R-1830 14 cylinder. R-1820 is a 9 cylinder engine built by Curtiss Wright.
