Just one of many high-vis formation assembly ships. In fact, that's one of the more sedate paint jobs!

Same deal, a war weary thats been stripped and painted up as a formation ship, easier to spot a wildly painted B-17 that to hear at morning briefing."and all groups are to formate on the green over gray B-17.........."Which one!!??!! There must be 350 of 'em up here!!!

Assembly ships are neat. Anyone have anymore photos?

Note the toned down national markings. These are seen on lots of aircraft types. I'm suprised that someone restoring a P-51 hasn't done this little touch. The other thing I've noticed is the reversal of D=Day stripes on A-25/P-38's etc Black/white/black/white/black>>>

Youse troops are incredible. You can actually still teach me something. I'd never heard of "assembly ships" before. The logic is obvious, however.
Thank you kindly.

Mudge, some of the bomb groups even added lights to their assembly ships that flashed the Group code for forming up. At least one veteran of the big Ploesti raid, "The Little Gramper" became a formation ship for her younger siblings.
Here is another cool B-24D paint scheme:

Anyone have any pictures of fighters with this type of paint job or did they not do that?

Obviously, Mudge, you don't spend enough time on the WIX, because this has been covered many times before. Here are two recent examples:

I guess you'll have to spend more time here!
