I am a bit out of my element with a
current project and am looking for
some help.

What were the-markings and color
schemes on the C-47s that dropped
the 101st Airborne in Operation Market
Garden?

Any pictures, profiles, suggestions,
or steers appreciated.

Thanks,
Owen

The basics would be Olive Drab over Nuetral Gray. I'm not sure, but I think the planes had Invasion Stripes..either applied for the drop, or left over from D-Day. The unit markings would consist of a large two-digit squadron code in gray behind the cockpit, the standard yellow serial number on the tail, and a large individual aircraft letter in yellow or gray above that. Some of the aircraft would have Medium Green mottling on the leading and trailing edges of the wings, stabilizers, and tail. Most would be pretty beat up looking.

Hope this helps.

Steve

Here are a few pics a quick Google search turned up. Looks like the invasion stripes had been overpainted on the upper surfaces by Market Garden..you can see them faintly through the paint. I'm not sure which specific units transported the 101st, but you should be able to find out with a little Googling.
