I dropped in on this event between 9:30 and 10:30, so missed the formal flying as I was on my way to sightsee in Vancouver with the family and could not stay longer. Still, the Mustangs were just returning from their practice sortie and it was nice to see them and the Emil out in the sunlight.

Inside the museum, I noticed that the absence of the Mustang and 109 opened some useful sight lines for photos of the aircraft still inside, esp. the Spitfire and the Hurricane. This was my first visit, quite a wonderful toy chest.

I was especially impressed by the helpful and courteous treatment of visitors by the FHC staff, who made the visit very nice to attend with my wife and kids. They indicated that at flying time they were going to clean out the museum and take the paying visitors to the best viewing location. I couldn't stay to see how they did that but I thought it was classy.

For those of you who said that the event was touching, moving, etc. etc. yet watched from the parking lot because you wouldn't spoon out for admission, is there a locational disparity between money and mouth here? Even granting that Mr. A doesn't need your $12, if you support these events, why free-ride? If I lived in the area I would attend every Fly Day and would not hesitate to pay the freight each time.

Anyway, great day, I don't have many pics that the rest of you don't have, but will try to post a few.

Well, i've already been to the collection 3 times (and will go many more times) since it's opened and the fly days are meant to be free. Besides, I could've paid to be inside the museum but I never would've got the shots I did by the fence.

Just got around to cropping and saving some of the many photos I took there last Sunday. I got a lot of photos of the US stuff there as that is my primary focus, but I decided to post mostly the photos of the more rare stuff you'd fine there...
ME-109:

ME-163 :Komet" rocket fighter, very rare (will never be flown as they were horribly unsafe to fly):

FW-190 "Dora," a very rare plane, don't think it flies:

Forward section of a RAF Lancaster bomber, 100% complete on the inside:

My favorite, the P-47, painted to match the wartime mount of a vet who lives in this area and married a gal from my hometown of Tallahassee, Florida!

Also, an original bunny rabbit I saw at the fence ;) : Image

FHC's hangar doors make a nice portrait backdrop if the aircraft are arranged right:

I bet the chances of getting the two 109s together is slim to none.

That would be a sight! It would also sound very cool!

Thanks for posting pictures everyone. I can't wait to get to Washington to see the collection.
Tim

THe rabbits are there to fuel the fields resident coyotes, when I worked for BADWRENCH we'd go out on engine trims and find coyote poop with bunny fur in it all over the ramp.
