What group is that black checkertail? I've never seen that before.

Nathan Davis flew his basically like that (though highly-polished) for a good while before applying markings, didn't he? I remember it at the Gathering of Corsairs with almost no markings other than insignias.
The Grand Champion Corsair at Oshkosh in 2003 (Gary Kohn?) drew raves because of the "from the factory" look, IIRC.

I don't think so, took this last year at GML.

Sure it's more polished, but it looks good to me!

I love it. Sometimes roll out markings look the best.

By the way, isn't Sparky (AKA Jellybelly) another combat veteran painted in its original markings? Seems like I remember reading that somewhere...

Unhappily, I could not think of any flyable Mustang which would show such a beautiful NATURAL aluminium finish.
on Airliners it says that is the sole surviving Swiss Mustang. That's not true. Twighlight Tear and Miss Helen are both former Swiss birds. The only one left in those markings... sure.
I think you have got your Swiss and your Swedish mixed up. Twilight Tear and Miss Helen were part of the Swedish Air Force not the Swiss Air Force.
Picture below of Twlight Tear in Swedish Air Force markings before she came to TFC.

You're right
Post WWII airforce Mustangs can also look very good!
P.S. Btw, very fine P-51H pic!

For my own knowledge - did NAA fill, sand, and paint Mustang wings at the factory? The Swiss photo above looks like an un-filled wing - a lot of rivets showing.
