Swiss Fly-In

Although I didn't know him personally, there was a Swiss airline pilot who used to have frequent layovers in our area; so frequent that he kept a Stearman here for a number of years. He has since retired and returned his airplane to Europe. He recently sent this link through our community.

He writes, "Last Saturday I flew to the highest airport in Europe, which is situated in the Swiss alps (5600 ft), to attend to a oldtimer Fly-in and air display. The weather was great and I had a lady on board who is already a renowned photographer, especially for aircraft. She took some really great shots which I'd like to share with you. What a SUPERB photo-thread and event! Wow, I was loving the Connie then saw the OV-10, Hunter, Turkey, Patrouie De Suisse, etc...and the scenery! Awesome. Thanks for posting.

Excellent,excellent photos - enroute, the air show, and the departure! That must have been a real thrill in the Alps with a Stearman! Would've loved to have been there for that old-timer gathering/airshow!

The pics of his Stearman landing were great, as well!

WOW!!! What an awesome photo thread with superb photography!

Some comments:

1) That airfield was pretty high up in the mountains. I sure would hate to lose an engine in that Stearman that the poster was flying in. It didn't look like there were to many options to put it down!

2) Who's TBM Avenger was that? I don't recall seeing that one before.

3) I love the F-5 formation aerobatics! Way cool! It reminds me of when the Thunderbirds had T-38's back in the 70's and 80's. Nice shot of that F-5 deploying flares also!

4) That Christen Eagle had an N number on it's fuselage. Wow, it traveled a long way from the U.S., just to get to that airshow!

Glad eveyone enjoyed the photos. I usually debate forwarding things along, but, in this case, the images were just too stunning not to share.

There's no substitute for "being there", but great photos like these are a close second.

Sadly, her photos have been deleted from the thread in the Swiss web-site.

Maybe she could re-post them, at smaller size-and resolution? Those shots were really good, and should be seen by more people.
