For all you who've expressed interest in Lone Star's 4Y, pick up the newest Warbird Digest. Scott G. has a short feauture with some good pix and all the latest scoop straight from Larry at the top. Really capped my afternoon when it came in today's mail.
Doug.

Mine came in the mail today too! It's great to see they're making progress.

When I was working on TR in June I played hookey for a little bit and drove down to check out LSFM. The PB4Y is really looking great, and I can't wait to see her in the air. I was especially impressed with the turrets and all the various antenna fairings already installed under the nose. It's really going to be worth the wait from what I've seen!

Scott,

I know she's keeping the R-2600's, but do you happen to know if they're redoing the cockpit glass from her T&G days?

TIA

Dan,

I don't know if the Lone Star folks are planning to convert the greenhouse now (or later). It seems there was a thread on WIX that explained the plan, but I don't think the greenhouse was a high priority item. Building and installing the framework won't be a small task, but it is feasible.

I would like to thank the guys who were working at LSFM the day I was there for their hospitality!

Scott

Very exciting news indeed. I will have to get a look at that issue of WD. Having a properly restored flying Privateer will be quite a treat! Is that Tarheel Hal in the background of the second photo?

Here are a few more detail photos of the Privateer from June:

One of the 250 CE top turrets:

Close up of the various antenna fairings (I'm almost surprised the PB4Y didn't get nicknamed "Warthog" with these all over):

And the right nacelles being restored/reworked:

Awsome, absolutely awesome job, Since she had R2600s on her, is that factory, or are there plans to replace them with original engines Pratt & Whitney R-1830-94 Twin Wasp 14-cylinder radial piston engines, and return to the B-24 signature e-lip-toe-kle cowlings. I confess that my knowledge of this example is limited. She is killer though, Terrific J O B!

Good question, Gary. I wonder the same.
