Ladders or stools or whatever, I don't understand the people who are sitting at the front of the crowd that feel as though they have to stand to get a picture of something that's happening 500' above their heads. There's ABSOLUTELY nothing that you can see standing up that you can't see sitting down.
Stand up in front of me and you're gonna' hear that exact phrase in a very loud voice.

Mudge the vicious

(FAT but vicious)

Bill...why did you have to do that to me? I was happily oblivious to the fact that I was that disgustingly porky.

I find it much easier to stand and take pictures of moving aircraft so I generally don't sit in the front row (I stand in the front row). I also find a lot of the fences a bit to high to allow good viewing of the Jet trucks and that is what airshows are really all about

I think you mean 'from the funny little island that's not Ireland off Europe'? I didn't notice any ladder prats at La Ferte Alais this year, while Duxford seemed to need a low pass over the crowd with cheesewire.

Quite a few of the ones at Legends the last couple of years had decidedly non-UK accents. La Ferte, like OW, attracts a better class of punter altogether.

About that sticker...
If any of you want a sticker like that, let me know. You can have whatever a/c silhouette you choose. The sticker is 3" X 4 1/2". I can make 'em smaller than that but I have to make 'em all one size.

Mudge the sticky

The sticker is a great idea.

You know it's true.
What's really funny is to see about 40 people all doing this in unison.

Mudge the watchful :hide:

Geez, I can still remember when you actually had to WAIT to see how the picture turned out

Here is the douchebag I spoke of earlier. I just can't wrap my head around this.

Don't you love these guys...

Of course, he stands dead center and ruins all your shots.

Best illustration of the greatest plague in today's world: selfishness... Absolutely no consideration for others

I don't know if it's an indication of me getting old or what but I can't help feeling that lots of good ol' kicks in the butt would be fully deserved. Or perhaps I was born a tad too late.

That is when you need to casually walk by holding a hot dog and "accidentaly" trip over his ladder knocking his dumb a$$ to the ground and breaking his camera that is worth more than the vehicle that transported him to the airshow....THEN... jump down his throat about HIM tripping YOU.

Sidenote: make sure no children, elderly or pregnant women are in the way before attempting said mission.
Another sidenote: yell TIIIIIIIMBER as he is crashing towards the ground only wondering if he has collision insurance coverage for his lens.

So it's not particularly obvious that you sat in the weeds to take this just to reinforce the point that he was a few of inches above you?

You've always got the option of standing infront of selfish prats like this. There again, you could always wear a top hat. I usually feel the need to educate these people rather than moaning about them afterwards.

OK, now we know how easy it has gotten in the digital world....what, you folks can't remember film day's when you had to wait 48 hours to see if it actualy turned out right....

Remember, the display only burns down battery time that you may need for that last pass.

And about the maroon standing on the step ladder......he needs a good ole' knee whack job (preferably with a Nikon D300 with a 300mm lens....I mean right to the patella).....

It's not so much about me as it is the people behind him. I just happened to be sitting during a break in the action. I'll almost always stand to shoot as it's easier to track better but not if i'll end up rudely in someones way.

Personally, I like the person at the left of the photo, mostly hidden behind the rolling umbrella holder (?). :?
They are sitting down in a folding chair while holding a pretty weighty long lens. This person is much less in someone else's way than the dang umbrella holder...or whatever that thing is.

Everybody laughs at those of us who Chimp extensively, but I love the instant feedback. The great thing is that when I get home to work up my stuff all the truly horrendous and/or just plain stupid mistakes -- poor exposure, unsharp, backs of people's heads etc. -- are no longer in the camera and I can then convince myself that I'm actually a pretty good picture taker after all!

Back in the film days my wife used to call the week after a big shoot "Neal's Oh Sh#t period" because of the rather tasteless language that occurred as the mounds of useless slides piled up around my chair...
