you and I are from the same school of searching! i've been all around the place asking people if they knew about the parts. Would you believe 850 aircraft were scrapped here! Where the tyres are the person who owns them said he threw all sorts of stuff in with them, engine parts etc. cranks pistons V1710 stuff. He let me take the flap (I was under the impression it was a corsair port inboard flap but it does have some bits that seem a bit different to a corsair flap, I'm a luftwaffe guy and not so hot with allied) but he wants to leave the engine parts and the tyres in the swimming pool so unfortunately that is where they will stay.
Complete airframes do still exist there, the ones I know of are, shall we say, very inaccesible e.g. buried under a runway! There may possibly be one or two airframes are the scrap yard but they need digging up.

As to p40 exhausts, as I said yes i've seen them, no I don't have one yet and when I do I'm going to hold on to it!

So does a WWII junk yard dog still live in that dog house or one of his grandsons? No all you Mustang nuts the red real dog house, not the P-51 part. Now that would be a real find.

Hey guys, Im going out on a limb here, maybe he's from Germany? Maybe he likes , specifically Me 109's......Just a thought.

I'm thinking from the aircraft listed that the parts came from that this has to be Pacific Theater - where P-40s, Corsairs, and Lockheed bombers might have been.
Obergrafeter's probably from Germany, too. :wink:

Interesting guesses alround! I went back today and dug out some kittyhawk parts, 87 serial numbers, a nice corsair gun tube, corsair catapult bridle hook that is really nice, and an intake lip. The heap may be under threat from nearby development though so I'm slightly worried about it, hopefully it will be left alone.

Can't blame him for keeping the cards close to his chest. Obviously he's local so he can keep a finger on the pulse of the dreaded "D" word - development - and maybe even strike a deal with the owners to do a little "selective mining" and hopefully get their blessing to filter some of this stuff out there to those of us who can use it and want to preserve it.

It's such a delicate balance in dealing with people who have land like this - whether it be the "buried treasures" or the scrapyards or even the rambling backyard collections. Can't tell you the number of times I've gone down this kind of path only just after the owners have been "burned" by those with less than honorable intentions. It's a bugger trying to rebuild the lines of trust once they've been damaged. I've been chased away more than once.

I've always found success with a lot of patience, a little perseverance, photos of project airplanes, a little cash, and the offer of a cold beer at the end of a hot day. Sometimes that last thing can be a real "deal sealer."
