That first pic of MK923 is taken in front of the Air Zoo's old restoration facility that was torn down in the early 90s. Those pics of MK923 bring back memories of my first airshow, at Muskegon. Just about the only thing I remember is Jerry Billing flying a demo in that Spitfire. I also had the privilege to see Jerry fly that Spitfire once in Kalamazoo. One of the best pilots I've ever seen. And I sure miss that Spitfire :(

Thanks for posting.

Man, I miss the CWH Hurricane. That was a nice aircraft from what I remember. I was very sad to find out it was distroyed.

Don Plumb and Jerry Billing Oct 1970 England picking up TE308

Is this when it was part of the Strathallan Collection?
British Civil code G-AWGB?
Are there any more pictures of this livery????

Great shots Dave and thanks for posting.

That first shot brings back fond memories. The pair of Battle of Britain film two-seaters. It was taken in the 'Samuelson' hangar at Elstree in March 1970 on the occasion of Don Plumb's visit to the UK to consider a purchase.

Sir William Roberts went on to purchase both Spitfires and the Hurricane from Tony Samuelson and transfer them to Shoreham and I went on to purchase TE308, on Don's behalf, in July that year.

Hold your breath when I tell you the price for a flying Spitfire then...£12.5k that is about $23,000 USD. It seemed like a lot at the time. :)

Bluedharma,

TE308 never did join the Willie Roberts Strathallan collection in Scotland, as stated in the web history. The two Spitfires, and I think the Hurricane, were initially flown down to Shoreham, close to Sir William's Kent home. MJ772 was repainted and together with the statics ML407 and PV202 made their way up to Scotland. TE308 was sold and shipped to Canada.

Thanks for the photos!
I guess I was a bit confused.
I wrote that "Still carrying the British Civil code G-AWGB, the TE308 was stored
briefly with the "Strathallan Collection" in the aircraft museum in Scotland."
I didn't realize that it wasn't part of the collection. I will change that part.
Thanks again!

Beautiful pictures, thank you for sharing!! I would love to attend a Spitfire fly in, especially to see the different variants and modifications up close.
