M-38's at OSHKOSH

Mon Aug 04, 2008 2:44 pm

Just wondering.
This week at Oshkosh I came across a tent behind the Warbird area that was chock full of Willys M-38 Jeeps. Some were OD, some were Navy Grey and at least one was Air Force blue. Are they owned by Warbird's of America?

Many were driven around the field during the day. Pretty cool idea, but I hope they don't throw the keys to just any Tom, Dick or Harry. Those older vehicles can have some interseting tendencies and mechanical needs and issues. I hope they give some driver training.

If they are owned by WOA, too bad they're only used once a year. Seems a waste of good MV metal, especially when all of us out there secretly want one !

Jerry-

I think they are owned by Charlie Nogle, a former WOA director, whose son is also now director. He used to bring them up for the judges and others to use. I believe he still owns them, but it is possible he donated them.....

Wow! I'd like to be Charlie's friend!
Looks like he restores jeeps in his spare time when he's not flying T-34's!
You know, every guy secretly wants his own military jeep!
It's interesting in that M-38's aren't as prevalent as the WWII MB's and GPW's or the later M38A1's.
All those in the tent at OSH were the M-38 varient.
Thanks Tim.

I do!
But my computer that they are on just blew a power supply this morning. (Sparks, Smoke and everything went off!!!)
I hope the drives are okay, but I won't know until I get a new PS. I can post them then!
