One never knows what one might when you vist an airport.

I was driving by Addison (Dallas) and saw this bird sitting out by some hangers...I slammed on the brakes!

Yes this is Lewis Shaw's bird, Kevin just gets to fly it when ever he's needed, plus a couple other Mustangs :D :D

So, really, who's Mustang is it?

That particular -51 ended up spending Friday night at Appleton this OSH, because OSH closed before he could get back. It was a most welcome visitor on our ramp! Nothing like coming in to work and being greeted by a gorgeous plane like that.

Just in case y'all don't know, this was Lefty Gardner's old Thunderbird. I was part of the crew who rebuilt it at Ezell Aviation, in the mid-90's (I think we finished it in '97). What a p.o.s. that thing was when Lewis bought it! I must say though, that Mr. Shaw not only wanted everything right, but keeps it that way, as you can see from the pictures.

One thing I found funny about it though, is from a comment Nelson said upon arrival in it from Breckenridge to Denton, the first time it flew cross-country with the rockets, drop tanks, and all the ammo & guns in the bays. I asked, "well, how'd it go?" He replied with, "Well....(standard Nelson pause  ) It'll cruise at a solid 180 knots." (With his eyes rolling). It's not exactly a Sea Fury with all that crap hanging off of it, but it sure looks good!
