I had these from my buddy Harlan Short Nose Art from Midland Texas.

Man, yankee girl scared me a little,ok maybe alot..

Do you reckon Yankee Girl completed the transgender process and got the full meal deal? Scary yes, no wonder the CAF liked them Southern Girls with the way they talk.

Yankee Girl's pilot to his co-pilot: "You think maybe we should have given him the six bottles of whisky after he finished painting the nose art?"

it's from B-24J-150-CO 44-40168 from the 492nd BG 857th BS, coded 9H-R - it arrived in Switzerland on 11th July 1944

What "Genius" had the forsight to salvage and preserve these? Wow! I trust that they all are original?

Question: Some WWll nose art looks airbrushed, such as "Mutz" shown here. Did they ever do that? If not, how was the effect ... well, effected?

I rejoiced when Texas Raiders switched from an airbrushed pistol-packin' cowgal to a brush-painted beauty some years back, but then have wondered ever since if maybe some extra fancy nose art wasn't shot using a detail gun or something by the occasional especially ambitious and talented artist?

They are all original and yes that is airbrush. Pretty rare though. I was surprised too when I saw that.

Another great thing about standing there in person and basking in the glory of these treasures... is seeing the OTHER side too.

A Mr. Pratt, an employee of Texas Railway Equipment Company (the firm that scrapped all the surplus at Walnut Ridge) was responsible for saving those sections. The Walnut Ridge Army Flying School Museum has photos of at least some of the aircraft prior to their scrapping.
