Hey everyone! This was the second year that I went to Oshkosh as a WIX member. It was great. I made new friends like Al Sauer and Rickolosa, and meeting up with my old pals Zack, Jen, Paul, Jaybird,Bill, Lex, Dan, Bary, and everyone else. It just adds alot of fun when you have cool people to share this stuff with. I explained to my friends that came with me that I had to go to a cookout to meet up with a bunch of guys that I met on the internet. I arrived at Zack's to the warm welcome you would expect walking into a cookout full of friends you had known for years. I was there for seconds before Jen had a brownie in one hand, Dan, had a beer in my other, and Bill was trying to get me to swallow an egg. They are that good. After talking warbirds, and and about everything else for a while, it was decided that in the name of WIX that we should attempt a recruiting drive. The nearest group of people just happen to be in a tent full of beer. So off we went.

The F-22 heritage Flight is always cool

The WIX Gathering at Zack's is a must.

Then came recruitment time.

I also tried to keep up the drive while at a local college bar in town. It went well.

While at Oshkosh it is great for WIX Members to try and talk about real warbirds issues in a mature manner.

COOKOUT!!!!! What cookout?! Sheesh, I miss all the good stuff. All I get is mosquito bites and search-lights shined on me. :)

Seriously, it was good to meet you and Al, and thanks again for the thoughts regarding my Regina's passing. Meant a lot (she was at Oshkosh last year with me, so this year was tough).

By the way, your avatar is "spot on" as the Brits say. "He should be flogged"? "Flogged, what are you in the British Navy"?

Yeah, Regina loved watching MASH with me too! darn.

Darn, it's hard to believe it's been 31 years since I've been to Oshkosh. Way too long. As we say in Pittsburgh, "Aoh, Gwod, I'm so jealous, an 'at!" :)

I forwarded this thread to my dad, who flew C-47s in the CBI. He loved all the photos, but especially the one of the C-47s lined up. Says Dad, "They were NEVER that spotless in Burma!"

Nice to see the two ex-Don Plumb P-40s sitting side by side again. More's the pity Bill couldn't bring his Spit to complete the threesome of surviving fighters restored by/for Plumb.

Shame, shame...

Dad and I went with Neils in his C-45... we could have made it with the L-5 but the final coat of OD came out too glossy... not original looking so I decided to do it over and wait until next years OSH... bummer, but I want it perfect. It'll be at Midland Airsho, Wings Over Houston (hopefully), Hondo, Sun-N-Fun and OSH 09.

I thought Hondo had been cancelled for good!?!

Ahh, must've misunderstood Steve's e-mail then. Sorry to hear that you're having to redo it. Hope you're planning on coming to the Open Cockpit day with the L-5 before Midland. ;)
