This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I've been told that this may be the third or fourth F-86? BF108 in background.
I have also been told that the P-80 is also the one in the last photo? Vampire and F7U in background
Please note Ben Hall's former F-86A and B47 in the background. Me on the left and sister on right. I think this was at the 50th anniversary of the B-17?

That's my boy!
The photo of him and his sister was indeed @ MoF in 1985 @ the B-17's 50th, and thats the second B-17 shirt we bought him that he's wearing-
The airframe is actually a TV-1 that was used for about 237 years as a playground toy @ N.A.S. Sand Point on Seattles Lake Washington (now Magnuson Park) it sat on it's belly still in White and Orange paint until rescued by the MoF as Sand Point was being deactivated. (it's historically important because it was one a very few P-80's given to Uncle Sammys canoe club when they needed to learn jet flying)
This airframe was sent to a restorer in Yakima Wa. in about 1987. The individual , who's name escapes me, had looking pretty good and back on her feet when he was involved in a meat grinder car accident and the airframe was brought back to the Everett restoration facility, where it's been collecting dust ever since.
The P-86 is indeed c/n 6 I believe. Ben Hall was on his way back to Seattle with 8178 on a trailer, when he stopped in Sacramento for lunch and spotted this one on top of a junk pile across the street, he bought it and squeezed it on the trailer. It's a good thing he got it because it provided the hard leading edges for 8178 when the slats on 8178 proved to be beyond redemption. Many famous Glutious Maximus' have sat in that aircraft including Crossfield, Kincheloe, Yeager, etc. as it was a chase plane @ Eddys Air Patch for NACA. The old slat leading edges from 8178 are in a certain hanger at KPAE, sans the slats or tracks.
Off the left wing of the P-86 in photo #2 is the MoFs VAMPIRE which has seen better times, the fuselage balsa and fabric are dry rotted and it's pretty doubtful that it will be restored using that fuselage.
The site is acting up again and this may double post-sorry

P-86 s/n 47-606 left MOF and is now on display at the Aero Space Museum in Calgary in spurious RCAF markings as RCAF 23175. SPAADS bought the plane from MoF. Seems odd that a very historical U.S. Sabre was sold by MoF (47-606) and a very historical Canadian Sabre was kept by MoF.

The RCAF Sabre at the MoF now is the ex-Boeing chase aircraft.
