NY B-52....maybe a chance to be saved?

Thu Jul 31, 2008 4:20 pm

Well, a few days ago I sent an email to the company that owns that B-52 in NY. Saying that I think this B-52 would best be served in a museum or at lest part of it...also I made note that the 1941HAG museum came to mind. I actually got an email back from them saying they would consider my idea and sent it to senior management!!! :D

Anyway perhaps you all could send an email saying you would like to see this B-52 saved..even if just parts of it. Also make a note the 1941HAG would be a nice place for that B-52.

here is the email address:

You never know...

B52 in NY?

Wondering if this is the B52 your talking about found these on the Gov sales site the other night. If it is looks like it is pretty far gone, you can't save them all.

I'm sure that ESAM would love a B-52 nose section, I mean their Vietnam war collection is surprisingly nice, but lacks bombers.

I was told that ESAM looked at this bomber a while back but due to size, money and the condition it was not something that they could do (assuming that the person telling me this had a clue about what the real deal really was).

But a Nose section would be very cool and I'd think most museums would be all over something like that.

No, but you can certainly save PART of them  As others have mentioned, the nose section would make for a fine display if they didn't trash it while hacking it off.

Here's another bird that was "too far gone"...

But with a little vision and a lot of work...

walter soplata has a forward fuselage section of a b-52 with cockpit that holds or held a world's record for a distance flight. it's laying on it's side in weeds, & is in decent condition.

Thanks for the kind words guys! There is still a lot of work to be done, but ole '389 has definitely come a VERY long way. Perhaps the future will hold the same for the -52 nose section...you up for it Nathan??

Well speaking on behalf of the Foundation, a C-97 would be a little outside the realm of what we're all about...however for me personally, if gas was cheaper that thing would probably already be in my junque pile here in GA! :)

I think there are still 2 B52's laying out in the weeds on the SE side of Edwards AFB...
