Flak Bait Up Date Please

Greetings
I was wondering dose anybody have a Update on the Future of the Martin B-26 Flak Bait ? Is she still slated to be transfered to Dayton ?
As always in advance Thank you to all that respond .

PS if was covered please excuse me I was on a Vac with the Inlaws and was deprived of PC use. :wink:

She never has been slated for transfer to Dayton. There is a small debate about her ownership, but I think it very unlikely that she will leave NASM. Hopefully she will be put on display in complete form at Udvar-Hazy before too long, but I suspect this may not happen for some time.

Perhaps you were confusing her transfer to Dayton with another NASM machine, B-17D Swoose? Swoose's fuselage was transported to Dayton on July 11th, as you will probably already have read. Her wings were flown to Dayton yesterday (I watched them leave Silver Hill personally).

Yes I knew of the Swoose being moved and glad that it has happen. I am all ready making plans next VAC in June to stop in spend a few days looking a everthing. I have already been checking in to what is needed to get a behind the seans tour.

The last time I saw Flak Bait at NASM Mall, about a month and a half ago, they'd put plexiglas over the areas where people could formerly touch the aircraft. It's not impossible to touch, but it is difficult and requires getting past the barriers.

I've been told by NASM staff and volunteers, at three different events now, that Flak Bait is scheduled to be the first aircraft into their new restoration shop at Udvar Hazy, once it gets built.

Translation: they will strip and rebuild her like new? Or will it be a preservation, leaving her in her authentic originals, and not destroying any more?
