Question on the cross under the windshield by the wing.
What was that for?
I read two things:#1 was the a/c had a fuselage tank :#2 was the a/c center of gravity.
Which one is correct or was it something else?
Also was that Capt. Bradford V Stevens P-51?
Thanks
Rick

I believe it is the Fuselage fuel tank. The CG actually varies a bit so it would seem difficult to correlate a painted on mark when all the CG info is calculated on paper. When built each aircraft isn't even weighed. All aircraft built under the same - number (ie-15) and configured with the same parts/equipment are considered to be exactly a like. A few are weighed and CG calculated and the rest are given a carbon copy of the Weight and Balance.
I also didn't see this mark on the factory drawing of stencils and markings.
