That guy might be a warbirdnerd, but this Warbirdnerd won't be at OSH untill tomorrow....

Great shots though Dan. I can't decide if the sneak peaks make the wait easier or tougher...
I see Tri-State's P-51 guru got infront of your camera too...

Tyhe guy on the right is WarbirdDriver.

Simply incredible stuff, as always for OSH. To me, every whine, rant and complaint on the "Oshkosh doesn't get it" thread is already blown into a million pieces by this thread -- and it's only day 2!

Keep 'em coming guys, I don't feel quite envious enough yet.

August

August, I think you said a mouthful there. Save this quote ... and thread. Any more bitchin' about OSH in any way, refer to same.

Well, August, I'm past that - happens every year with me. I've never been to OSH myself, and I live by the pics and discussions here. And, as you say, it's only Day 2!

Refer to part of above quote in red ... 8)

What you said. Chico! Most of us who mill miss Osh this year are looking forward to this thread, so thank Dan K and "Spooky old AL" for the photo's. I have always thought that OSH was started by EAA and that Warbirds were registered or licensed as Experimental and that was the reason for their appearance at OSH. What the History of this? And I don't see "Experimental" painted in bold letters on the aircraft any more.

Great shots. You guys are killing me, sitting here bored of my a$$ at work. I'll be there when the sun comes up Thursday morning.

Warbirds of America started out as an independent group, their union with EAA was sort of a marriage of convenience that has had its ups and downs over the years, but has worked out to the enormous benefit of both parties overall. Warbirds are registered in several different categories. Politically, they do share issues with the homebuilding movement in that they are outsiders vulnerable to getting beat up by the mainstream (commercial) aviation interests.

Wade, to get that really white-hot intensity of envy for people who are at OSH, you have to have been there. It is the only event that really makes me question, each year that I miss it, what is wrong with my life that I am not able to get back there. I am just counting the years until my sons are old enough to form enough of a family voting bloc so that we can attend most years.

Great stuff, and it looks like someplace I'd love to go, for sure. This is going to sound awful, but I really feel bad for the guys who built up "Impatient Virgin"... a brand new razorback Mustang, which would ordinarily be the toast of any event, and then Happy Jack's Go Buggy and Old Crow show up... :) Those two aircraft look so authentic, it's scary. Impatient Virgin, on the other hand, looks like it's owned by someone who's more interested in owning a Mustang than commemorating the men who flew them to glory. Just a personal opinion, it's his money and his aircraft, and it's certainly well-finished, but I can't help but feel the owner really missed an amazing opportunity here.

Thanks to all the posters for the continual photo coverage!

Lynn

Doh! It was very late and I was cooked to a complete crisp by the sun (and Warbirddriver is a nerd :D). I still think that's like my first mistake of the year.

Downloading Tuesday's pics. Stand by...

All overused postive adjectives apply. I also say refer to the above quote in red.
And I'm already rethinking all my warbird plans for next year.

Whose Albatross was that off in the distance? Was that Rick Sharpe's Spooky closest to the camera?
After all is said and done, just out of curiosity, I'd like to see a rundown of how many of each warbird type were present.
I'm rambling and highly enjoying this thread. You guys have done well i.d.-ing the Mustangs. How about some id's on bent wing fighters and big iron?

blue skies,
Doug.

Doug,

That Spooky is the one owned by Squadron 14 out of Topeka, KS.

Best part of today was that it was my youngest son Joshua's first day ever at OSH. 8)

Hey kid, tell the nice judges that "Quicksilver" is your favorite!

The payoff! (Pretty studly-looking Mustang jock...good thing he's got his mother's looks)

This time in the Wisconsin Wing's new PT-26. Ya' think he's having a good time?

Oh yeah...can't forget the new artwork. I understand it, but I don't think I like it.

Back in the day, they would list type, N-number, owner and hometown of all show planes at Oshkosh in Sport Aviation.
