CAF Logo

As a few of you have allready replied to this topic, I would like to pose the offical question....................... Logo yes or no? I will deliver the results to Midland or I suspect they will allready be monitoring this site.

Can someone post some pics of the logo? I saw one, but could not determine its size.

So... Before I vote...How big are they? Where are they located on the planes?

There is a picture of one on the B-24 in the Oshkosh site. The offical ruling is that the Logo be appropriate to the aircraft size and be reconizable in air to air photography. On an L-4 I guess that means you would either tow a banner or paint the whole side with the logo.

Does the logo have to be on both sides of the aircraft, or just one? I can understand the organization's need to promote itself, especially as we transition from one generation who were familiar personally with the aircraft to another generation that only knows the aircraft from movies and television. I just didn't know if the CAF had considered following the Collings Foundation's lead with their pattern of sponsors on one side, and appropriate combat livery sans logo on the other? Could make the photo folks happy, while still helping out the CAF. Just a thought. (ducks now)

Maybe another way to promote the brand would be to include a logo window sticker each year when you re-new your membership. (ala EAA, AOPA, AFA, xyz.... )I have EAA stickers on both cars, toolboxes and coolers mostly because I get 2 new ones every year, but only have a couple of things with CAF stickers on them...
It might be a better way to spread the word about "The Airforce you've never heard of...."

I wouldnt use a logo that grows with the aircraft. If you had like a 5" logo decal for each plane thats one thing, but whne you keep getting them larger to get air to air qaulity photos, the plane starts to look like a billboard. Thats just my opinion. I think they should represent the period they served in, whatever that may be. But to make them billboards for group pride in air to air shootings is just a bit much. So far I see the pole reflects that also.

Just my 2 cents, take it or leave it.

They are their airplanes and they can do what they want. However, I perfer that they didn't.

I am not for painting the CAF logo on large- Nor am I for the Collings Foundation's method of painting sponsor names on: Both detract from the historical perspective/accuracy of the aircraft. I would much rather see a traveling billboard with those names, erected when the aircraft is on display at shows: you can't even read the names in photos, nor in flight- unless you violate their airspace!

Keep the aircraft accurate- or go back to the white paint job with red and blue stripes.

Well, I think it is a great idea. Here are some other great ideas:

Seriously, if you really believe you are the caretaker of a truly historical artifact or a piece of heritage you DO NOT DO THIS, it is just a non-starter.

Luckily, what can be photoshopped in, can also be photoshopped out. So the logo may not appear on MY photos of the CAF's airplanes.

I say don't do it. It takes away from the originality of the planes. :? :)

I'm sure that this item is and will continue to be hotly debated, even among the leadership of the CAF. There is no easy answer to the organization's continued need to increase awareness and visibility among the general public and maintain the historical accuracy of the aircraft.

As with most things in life, a compromise is necessary.

I don't like it at all. I am also not a fan of the CF putting sponsor names outside. Why go through the trouble of putting the correct paintscheme on the aircraft, just to mess it up with stuff like this.

Mon Jul 28, 2008 12:14 pm

I would rather not see a logo. However, if it MUST happen for whatever reason, how about putting the wings underneath the rear stabilizer wings, where the airplane type and "Commerative Air Force" is sometimes printed? Then in air-to-air shots, where the plane is usually shot from above, you won't see it. But on the ground, it's visible if you really look for it. Just a thought.

This is about promoting the CAF as a brand, which is very much a Good Thing. Having the CAF Winged Logo visible from a distance on the ground, and in air-to-air photo shoots for magazines and calendars is exactly the whole idea.

Eric,

Can you please explain why it is a good thing to promote CAF as a brand? I'm not up to speed as to how this helps. I'm sure there are good reasons...I just personally don't know the benefits, and I'm guessing I'm not the only one.

Thanks!
