Also Mustangdriver you might want to mention it to the museum that the Memorial Park trees are being descimated by Japanese Beatles. Some trees were almost completely scalped. Shame to see such a beautful place that remembers those who gave being ravaged by such a destructive bug.

Steve

I'm not complaining, I just thought it would be worth mentioning in the display the true identitiy of the aircraft. Perhaps an original photo.

What I'd love to see a museum do is gather great group of seasoned modeler. Who would research the scheme to be displayed, and executed with all the correct details and weathering. Some of the most anal people I know. :D

Shay, when did this bug damage begin?? I was at NMUSAF last October and I did not notice the tree damage....although I only spent a short time in the Memorial Park. That area is pretty cool. It is unfortunate to hear the park is suffering this destruction by a damnable bug.

Well atleast this season. I was there on Sunday. I imagine because of the airshow that weekend attendence at the museum was up and I had to park on the back side of the Memorial park. Not a bad deal I enjoyed the stroll and reading the momuments. Liked when they used to have the 8th AF quonset hunt in there. As i walked through I notice lots of leaves laying on the ground. Kinda looked like Fall leaves on the ground except they were just the veiny skeleton of the leaves. Like I said, some of the tree were all but naked. I noticed it was the Japanese beatle when we were leaving. We passed by one tree that was mostly devoured and saw what look black lumps all over the leaves. A closer look and I saw it twas those darn bugs. Lots of them.

If i don't hear back from MD then I'll go in this weekend and let the staff know about it.

I hope they take action and not blow me off.

Reminds me of that article in Fine Scale Modeler (I think) a few years back featuring a parody diorama of an 8th AF "Weathering Competition" where different fighter squadrons were competing to see who could weather their P-47s the most.

Quote:
I saw that diorama in person at the IPMS Nationals a couple of years ago. I've got some pics of it somewhere, along with the "official" memo with the painting instructions (complete with authentic coffee rings stains.)

Quote:
Maybe you could post those in the Model area? Please? Pretty please? Maybe you could post those in the Model area? Please? Pretty please?

Pics posted in the "Modeling" forum! I didn't take them..my photos from that particular show are locked up on a dead hard drive.

Please by all means let them know.

I'll be there sometime over the weekend. I only live 15 mins away. Like I mentioned before my wife is 8 + months pregnent, so we'll be there strolling through the museum. She wanted to start walking to bring on Labor so I said why not not do in a large open air conditioned space like the NMUSAF  (very smooth)

Best of both worlds. :D

Oil breather tube vent.

Most surplus Mustangs have this tube relocated down to the belly.

The stock set up protruded just past the skin of the fairing.
This allows the oil mess to cover the side of the aircraft. The airflow really spreads it out over the side.
This extended tube was the 1st modification to move the outlet further away from the surface and reduce the mess.
Today most have the vent outlet moved to the bottom of the scoop. A few have it stick out the R/H rear wing fairing.
Out of sight and it keeps things pretty on the money side.

I'd be stoked if her water broke in the World War Two gallery. Or onboard the C-124 :D
