where were you on 7/20/69 ???

In Northbrook, IL at a block party at our neighbors Ted and Andrea Kohl's house (the neighbors with the biggest color TV and the thickest shag carpeting). Their older son Scott was wearing a silver space suit which I wished I had... I was almost 9 years old and still remember the cheers that went up when Neil Armstrong set foot on the dusty lunar soil - we probably were hollering too much to hear the "one small step..." speech the first time!

I was 17 months old and my dad sat me down in front of the TV so I can say I watched it! My grandad took a picture of the screen with Neil coming down the ladder and 'Live From the Moon' on it. That is a slide and it's somewhere I need to find and scan it.

I was 14. We lived on a fairly busy street. That evening I looked out and saw everyone's living room lights on and zero cars on the road. The actual walk took place around 10:00 pm CDT and I fell asleep half way through the walk. Our well used color TV took about 20 minutes to fully warm up, and ocasionally needed a good bang on it's side to "readjust" the vacuum tubes inside.

I had just graduated from high school 40 days prior and it was 10:00P CDT I was more than likely either a little buzzed up or trying to be. I do remember my father remarking that some of his older siblings were born about the time of the Wright bros. 1st flight and they are now (at the time) only in their mid sixties. Historicaly speaking things happened pretty fast. Hugh

I was ten years old and glued to the (black and white Philco) television! I was a "space program junkie" growing up, and it would have taken a team of draft horses to pull me away from that boob-tube! Coolest thing I'd ever seen in my young life up to that point.

I was settling in for my 3rd trimester, looking forward to the big move!

Sorry I missed it, I definitely remember the Shuttle on the 747 though.

Well, depending upon the time of day you're asking about, I was in different places. It was the biggest moment of my young life (11 Years old) and I can tell you exactly where I was!

At 3:20 EST I was in our crowded den watching Eagle descend and land on the moon. Then, later that night, I was in my parents bedroom as we all watched Neil emerge from Eagle and make history.

I was so into the space program that I even forced my parents to bring a TV on vacation (that was a sacrilage!) just to make sure I could see the launch. (With Walter Cronkite, of course!)
We got home Saturday from vacation and Sunday afternoon, watched the big show with everyone else on the planet!
I wish I took notes.

it's interesting to note with all the posts on this thread the quantity of black & white tv's in use to watch the epic event then. our kids today would have screamed CHILD ABUSE!!!!

where were you on 7/20/69 ??? the day when we landed on the moon. i remember it vividly!!! i was at my dad's store by the cash register with customers all around watching a grainy black & white tv reception of the event. i can still feel the chill down my spine!! i remember tang orange drink & armstrong's famous words. i was in 3rd grade too!!

I'd have to ask my mom as I was still 22 days away from being born. My dad saved the Honolulu papers for me, but sadly newspapers and time don't do well.
