Anyone know what this aircraft is?

Looks vaguely similar to the Lockheed 12A that we (when I was at Ezell Aviation) did a substantial amount of work on for Linda Finch, when she was doing the "World Flight."

Nope....It starts with a "B" , like Beechcraft....U.S. made a/c

Well... has more Lockheed qualities than Beechcraft qualities. My guess is some kind of movie prop or replica. Those are lockheed cowlings... Did it have a dataplate?

Those cowlings are just wrong. Has to be some kind of mock up are test for some kind of different engine set up that was never used.

Ok people, I gotta go so I'll spill the beans...It was built in the late 30's...I believe 37-39 era....Built in Detroit, Michigan...about 27 produced....Barkley-Grow.....

This example was at a museum in Calgary, Ab., took the shot last year...I had seen it previosly from a distance, and erroniously thought it was a Lockheed 10-12

I was told that it is one of only two in existance, and both are in Canada. This one was on floats sitting on a pond not far from Calgary, and flown out for the museum...

Of note is the fixed gear, and that there are no spars in the wings....

Perhaps the originals were certified with Jakes but those in the museum are 9 cylinders...that means P&W. Unless of course you mean the Wasp Jr.s that Jake built on contract. :wink:

What's the background on the Finch plane and what ever happened to it?

Gary did you at Ezell start or finish the Finch plane? I saw it being worked on in SA one time and it was pretty well gutted. Did she send it uo to you all to finish? Last time I saw it was at Sun and un in 1999.

AGP85, I don't know where that airplane is now.

Ober, We finished the airplane up at Nelson's place. It was put together and made flyable by her crew in SanAntonio, but we did all of the stuff to make it ready for her big flight around the world. It was a neat airplane. I liked working on it much more than a Beech 18!
