lol thats funny, looks like the razorback is coming along nicely too :D

Are you turning that B-24 into an LB-30 or C-87??

Reason I ask is.......

Image

Mine was pulled out of the junk box, I never completed it. It was missing a couple of the turrets and all but one of the props were destroyed. So I thought might as well make it a Liberator Express. Its not going to be accurate as this is an afterthought but its something to do. Hes just a little guy at 1/144.

Kind of forgot about it.
Been doing lots of commissions, doesn't leave time for much else.

I think we all had to move on to other things... I just thought about the project when I unearthed the P-38 the other day and thought it would be funny to see what we've done since January.

The B-24 near the top of that heap will eventually be "Harper's Ferry", a B-24H from the 449th Bombardment Group (H). She was delivered new to Bruning AAF, Nebraska from the Douglas Tulsa plant , survived combat, and was salvaged at the end of the war at a depot in Italy. The camouflaged P-47 will be a trainer that was assigned to Bruning after the field switched from bombardment to fighter training.

I do have a 1/72 B-24A conversion in the works. I think I started it six years ago or so  . The original intent was to build the B-24 destroyed during the Pearl Harbor attack, but I might just change the markings a little bit to reflect a certain 1/1 scale Liberator we've hacked around on. In fact, the cowlings/nacelles/propellers for that project are something I'm tinkering with in my "spare time" and I will be casting them in resin. They're in the foreground of my workbench/graveyard photo.

I like seeing others dive into conversions from the parts box, keep us posted, Cripes.

I know where you can get some pretty groovy artwork for that B-24 to make decals. ;)

Thanks, what artwork would that be? Actually, I'm planning on building AM927 before she got torn up out west, RAF insignia and all. If that goes well, I might do a model of her in more current configuration, so I just may need that artwork. The real thing isn't finished yet (I hope), so it would be hard to build a model of it!

Yeah, by the way, I'm using Airsho 80 pics of Diamond Lil as a reference for the nose and tail fairings. 8)

She'll always be Diamond Lil to me (but I think I like her more in her current configuration!) :P

Cripes,

Don't let Gary hear you call '927 that other name! Actually, it's referred to as "the pig" by a few of us.

LOL, its like that huh? Im a Colonel but I havent been current since 1999. I had been out of the loop for so long without my DISPATCH that I didnt even know that 924 had a makeover.

Cripes,

We fondly (most of the time) referred to '927 as the pig. There are a lot of folks who will NEVER see that airplane as anything but Diamond Lil, even though the reconfiguration has occurred and was decided on by the Squadron leadership. All the same, it's "Ol' 927" that Chad painted on the sides, and that is how she is configured now. Heck, I usually just say "the B-24" when the subject comes up.

Yeah, we tried to keep it a secret, but there was a certain website that just ruined the whole thing  ........

Oh geez, shows how much I know I called her 924. Duh da duh! :? :? :?

Sorry guys, slip of the mind and fingers. I was just making a joke about her and the Diamond Lil name, I really think she looks fabulous now.

And Gary I dont think I ever said how impressed I was with the work you and your team preformed on her. Unreal!

Im sure Lloyd is proud! :D

Cripes,

Someone admonished me quite harshly when I got out my camera for unrelated picture-taking the weekend that Chad and his crew applied the Ol' 927 nose art. There was a certain amount of secrecy--I wondered if I would have to sign some kind of waiver to allow me in the hangar.

Well, it's hard to keep a secret nowadays you know.
It all worked out though.

And Cripes, thanks for the kind words. :-)
