OH NO...Say it isn't so. Can't see how anyone enjoys a bunch of T-6s made up to be Japanese a/c and a bunch of fuel fires. But that's just me.

As far as jets go...Anything other than the F-86, MiG-15, and the T-33 can stay home.

I'm prepared for the :crispy:

Well Mudge,

Why don't you go out and get us all the A6Ms, Kates and Vals needed for an authentic IJN attack on Midland?

With 300+ warbirds attending regularly, wouldn't Oshkosh be at the top of both categories?

I have never been to Oshkosh and I am not sure I would really like going. Too many people, too many planes, too many bad stuff happening. I like the home feeling Geneseo has...a plain old corn field and home made hamburgers! :D And nothing but warbirds.

I really like the sounds of Geneseo. I love the small time shows. I think I would be very impressed with Oshkosh, but I get the feeling Geneseo would be more my scene.

Actually, I've been into filmmaking since I was young and enjoy the film history of the Tora Birds whenever I see them. They are part of aviation history: recreated as film props. I see the Tora act as a lot of exciting confusion and the public doesn't know which way to look next.
It gives a little excitment into what an air attack could be like. Not the same with two P-51 making a pass down the flight line. (Though 2 P-38's would be cool!)

One of the best things about the warbirds for me is the number of friends I have all over the U.S. I can really go almost anywhere and meet or run into someone I know. It's a real perk to liking these old birds!

If you don't have one near by and don't have the funding and infrastructure to produce your own, you're just going to have to fork over the dollars and go to what ever is closest. You won't regret it, especially if you can hook up with some of the characters on WIX. They can make an away show much better and you might make some new friends.

If you're lucky, in the end, you'll realize that it's the people you miss every year, not the aircraft. The aircraft are just the common thread that allows us to see our friends every show! I've been to many shows where the weather was horrible, but I had a wonderful time regardless. No show is a washout if you're with friends.
Blue skies,
Jerry

David,

Jerry really hit this one on the nail. While I have lots of shows in my area, I now run into people I've met over the years, and can hang with at the shows, and more importantly rehash the day with them at dinner or breakfast. My first few visits to Thunder Over Michigan were rather lonely, as I didn't know anybody back east in that area. Through WIX, I've met quite a few people, developed good friendships, and am able to have a good time overall. After Thunder we meet for dinner and check out instant satisfaction from the show via Laptops, and usually Airic has done some air to airs on his way to the show. This year I'm saving $$ by sharing a room at the the Thunder show with Tim A.

Back to your issue, you'll obviosuly have to travel to see your warbirds, but check out the "WIX Gatherings/Aviation Events" at http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/p ... m.php?f=13 and you'll see people meeting at their favorite shows from across the country. Hookingup with someone with the same interest can save you $$ on car rentals, lodging, even entry fees where they charge for parking or by the car. Good Luck and hopefully meet you at a show in the future.

I agree with Roger.

Save your $$ and fly to Chino next year. It is the best Warbird show anywhere.

And - you can fly easily into Ontario, rent a car, plenty of hotels, etc. etc.

Convenient, great show, worth the trip.

I seem to remember having the best seat in the house two years in a row.

Be nice - or I'll use my water pistol on you.

Chino sounds like my best bet for a while. Maybe I can convince my air museum to let me have one of our pilots fly me down in the Harvard. As if.. hahaha...

Thanks for all the info guys.

I may be way off base here, but there is another option that has yet to be mentioned. Get together with some like minded folks together and start your own show.
I am on the fringe of a group of enthusiasts that were terribly spoiled by Bob Pond and his Planes of Fame East Museum. When it was decided to move the collection West to Palm Springs they were left in a similar situation.
They stayed together and formed Wings of the North. www.wotn.org They started small, luckily the local warbird scene was and is strong, and now put on one of the most anticipated aviation events in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area each year. Bad weather, a thief, and other misfortunes have been roadblocks, but they/we are not giving up.

Moral of the story is it can be done. Maybe you start by working with an airport or FBO that already has a fly-in/pancake breakfast/pork chop dinner and invite local Harvard, L-bird, Chippies etc and build from there...
