I watched C-133's deliver 150 Minuteman Missiles to Minot AFB during 1963 and 1964. It stood out amoung the B-52H's, KC-135's and F-106's stationed at Minot.

I know I'm not right in the head , but I think that is one cool looking airplane. It certainly won't take much to restore her to the last USAF paint scheme she carried, if that is what is planned!

PS An earlier post said the C-133 was originally built to haul ICBMs, Not true. The only missile the C-133A haul was the Thor IRBM. Ihn fact, more than once, a brand new C-133A was picked up by a crew, laoded with a brand new THor, and "off to Blighty we go." When SAC decided that moving ICBMs by air would be safer and quicker than overland, that is when the C-133B was designed, with a bigger hole in the rear and more powerful engines.

I wonder what the flight plan would be and where (if anywhere) they'd stop along the way. I'd love to see them stop for refuling at Seattle!

The Airplane will make only one stop and that will be at McChord.

I'm hoping that the flight will be documented ahead of time, would love to hear when to expect it to come through the area as getting into McChord is pretty easy for me.

I certainly didn't mean to slight the contribution the '133 and her crews made to operations in S.E. Asia, just acknowledging her original purpose--hauling ICBMs.

Actually, that was not the C-133's original purpose. It was bought as an air logistics carrier. MATS commander LtGen Joe Smith recommended its purchase, in 1955, as a logistics transport. The only missile the C-133A could carry was the Thor IRBM. It was not until the mods were made that resulted in the C-133B that the C-133 could haul the big boomers. The first C-133B ICBM airlift was to move an Atlas from NAS Miramar to FE Warren AFB, WY on 3 Nov 59. The Atlas program was given the go-ahead in May 1954. Many early Atlas missiles were moved to deployment bases by truck, which exposed them to all sorts of hazards. The Titan contract was signed in Oct 1955 and the Minuteman was accepted by USAF in 1958.
