Faded Triangle L maybe. 381st? Weary looking maybe at a depot for melting.

Sorry, I should have mentioned he was only in the South Pacific so, it is unlikely that is a 381st plane.

it is either a VIP plane as it has no .50s installed, or it is a state side pic, it prob was a navy base as it appears to be a F4U behind the left stab. Maybe it was being delivered to the navy ?

The cowls appear to be painted..possibly yellow.

Looks more like a Square L than a triangle L. Can't remember which group that was, but it was a Third Division bird, so the yellow cowls would fit into their paint schemes.

I'm with Matt on this one. That treeline is reminiscent of a photo I've got that was taken at one of the Florida training bases.
