Very interesting Jerry.
The Hurricane L1851 YO-U prang was probably:
"F/L V.B.Corbett a Canadian from No 1 (R.C.A.F.) Squadron damaged his Hurricane I (L1851) at Hornchurch during a scramble on the 18th of August 1940 when he ran into a fuel bowser at 14:40hrs." (From
www.the-battle-of-britain.co.uk). With such an early serial this one may have had, at least when built, the fabric-covered wings, 2-blade prop, and no ventral fin. Looks like it was retrofitted with at least the 3-blade prop, the later rudder, and at least part of the ventral fin; I wonder if the part behind the tailwheel was never fitted or fell off in the accident.
