Bill did not request anything at the start. Many offered assistance.
This site is about a love for warbirds. If you want to help out...then help out... Otherwise why complain? What purpose does it solve?

(Fact) Bill has taken his aircraft around the United States on many occasions for us all to see.
He didn’t ask for a fee like the Collins group to look at his aircraft up close. The public has had unlimited access to this wonderful piece of history.
He has contributed greatly to the Warbird arena in general.
Yeah he owns it... so have people in the past.
When he fly it, that is my entertainment. I take photos, I enjoy seeing it fly. A movie costs what $9.00 here in Denver? I get this for free.

He has given to the Colorado community.
I know that he has flown to charity events such as the "Morgan Adams event" here in Denver to help out.
He has flown like many of you do... to educate and entertain the public about Warbirds.
(In my opinion...) I think a post on WIX here isn't out of line at all.
Two good things are
1.) Bill is ok after the incident.
2.) He desires to get the aircraft back in the air.

So people... we can either let the aircraft sit on the ground... stay at a museum... or as Bill said "The point is to get the plane flying again."

Guys, do what you want to do. Bill thank you for letting me see your aircraft in the past, and I look forward to seeing it fly in the future.

The question I would like to ask without ticking anyone off is: Why did the skyboss at the show let a Spitfire land ( which has very little to no forward view ) when their was still a aircraft ( Hurricane ) on the active runway??? You would think after last years death at Osh. they would not allow 2 aircraft to land on the same runway.

Since Bill could not see the Hurri. and damage was done to his aircraft shouldn't the show organizers be resposible for the damage to the Spitfire and Hurricane?

Bill do you still plan on heading down to Geneso in a few weeks?

While donations are nice, you have got to ask yourself will donantions get you close to airborne again? While people wished Lefty the best, when it was all said and done the -38 was ultimately sold.

My suggestion is get your CFI, and aircraft paperwork and insurance inorder. Create your own 501-C3, then have your kids create a website and start pre-selling rides. If you sit in the back, and give flight training, cg should not be an issue, you would have a marketable asset. Seems like the -51 on tour is making some money.

Guys, this is a post to let people know how they can help out--which many of us have asked to do.
BDK, Bill isn't asking for help .WE offered it and he has given us information as to how we can do that.

As for nobody throwing money at your for your T6 project, well, do you really expect anyone to step forward like we have for Bill when you keep picking fights with everybody? Not saying you should kiss ass, but sheesh, man, do you have to snipe EVERYBODY? :roll: There is a difference between not agreeing with someone and hunting them down and browbeating them. :wink:

Bill, I am broke and getting broker. Give me some time and you WILL be recieving my tithe toward getting your spit in the air.

The FAA doesn't allow rides to be sold in "Experimental, Foriegn Built" aircraft.

Maybe it is just me, but I find it odd that people would be willing to donate money to increase the value of another's personal property. Bill even says he may not restore the plane! I'm sorry if you think I'm picking a fight because that surely is not my intent. I can't believe that by attaching a copy of Michael Lesko's book cover, my statement that I was jealous, about Mudge going for a ride or me buying a Spitfire project could possibly be taken as a serious attack on Bill.

Indeed, but (AFAIK) in the case of the P51 the total cost was just a hair over the deductible so the insurance wasn't much help....
....& I don't see $1M in damage to Bills Spitfire..

Dave C, it is common in airshows to land on the same runway while another plane is rolling out ahead of you. It's done in the show part as well as for arrivals. You could never get all the visiting planes into Oshkosh or Lakeland or Midland if you had to have the entire 8000 feet clear before landing. The airboss clears the group to land, such as the fighters. Then it is up to the pilots to space out as needed. Standard practice is to roll out pretty far, maybe all the way to the end to clear for the planes landing behind you. I thought I had plenty of room at Galveston, the margin was 20 sec., but the Hurricane was not able to clear the runway and continue to the far end. I didn't even know he was having difficulty, I don't think the airboss saw it, the problem was not evident at touchdown, it developed down the runway, after we both had made good landings. By then I was nose up, taildown and could not see it, and there was no radio warning.

What happend to the Back seat buddy pledges of financial support? I guess it sank in there might not be a back seat ride in store.. But if you say your going to donate to someone then do it! It shows a lack of class to promise or pledge support then forget or withold it. He gave alot of you guys rides, you should kick in a little something when the man is down. It's bad enough when you ask for a ride and then don't want to help wash the man's plane! Show some class and pony up if you promised!
