This evening the RAF Red Arrows gave a little-publicized free performance over the beach in Staten Island as part of their goodwill visit to the eastern US. It took an hour and a half to get there from midtown New York, but part of that was the enjoyable Staten Island Ferry ride, an enjoyable trip across the harbor with views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and a glimpse of the Intrepid. The ferry is also free, one of the great bargains of New York. The flying was terrific; you Brits have a great group of pilots there. Weather and lighting were perfect. We were treated to pretty much the full display, plus a couple of bonus 9-plane chevron passes as the team set up for some photo passes over Lady Liberty.

Very nice pics. I bet it was a great way to spend the evening. The weather was beautiful out last night.

Yeah sorry about that, I just learned at the last minute. It was almost a hush-hush affair, although I gather it was in the local S.I. papers.

You can still see them at the Rhode Island airshow this weekend.

Any idea how they got here? Did they fly them over or did they crate and ship them?

I am just used to thinking of them operating around England and Europe. Hopping the pond is a long trip in comparison, although I suppose when your in a jet it dosent take too long, haha.

Excellent pictures and in an excellent setting. Have seen them several times and they never cease to amaze me.
