The Betty is one of two that brought the Japanese surrender delegation to Ie Shima, where they boarded a U.S. C-54 to continue on to the negotiations with Allied high command. Macarthur specified that the Bettys use the call sign "Bataan" when entering Allied-controlled airspace. The planes were painted in the "surrender markings" specified by the Allies: overall white with green crosses. The Bettys were so worn out that one of them actually had to ditch on the way back to Japan.
