Warbird Information Exchange

With recent developments of warbirds changing hands, it got me thinking about other hypothetical exchanges.

Without Pitchforks and Torches and flaming each other's opinions or Museums and their staff.....

What aircraft at other museums would you like to see somewhere else?

For examples,

B-29 Superfortress "Peachy" at the Pueblo Museum traded to the Lowry Museum for a B-24 or navy version type. B-29's did not operate at Pueblo but B-24's did. Likewise B-29's were used in training at Lowry yet they do not have one at their museum. A Colorado exchange.

The Museum of Flight would love to get a P-26 (or so I have read on WIX) to complete collection of early Boeing designs. Chino would never part with theirs of course nor AF Museum. But maybe for a really good trade. Hmmm...what could elicit such a trade? West Coast trade.

The P-61 Black Widow in Beijing Aeronautical Museum being traded for say a Static B-25 representing Doolittle Raiders. Would love to see the P-61 go to say Paul Allen, Chino or Hill AFB Museum for complete restoration. Flying or otherwise. The other remaining P-61's are pretty much on the East Coast and so a West Coast venue would serve it well. They were built in Hawthorne California. International swap.

Any of you have any ideas for others? Remember it could be with an International Museum or organization. Your thoughts are much appreciated.

The "Downunder Boys" have an impresive collection of Birds. They should trade something to Pensacola (Naval Museum) for the C-1 Cessna Bird Dog that Flight Officer Gay Cooper flew in RVN in 68. It should be in Australia anyway, plus it was a US Air Force aircraft to boot.

The Bird dog in the collection is the one that made a carrier landing by South Vietnamese Air Force major Bung-Ly during the fall of Siagon. I think Pensacola is a very fitting place for it. Is there a different Bird Dog you are talking about?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I feel the XP-51 here at the EAA AirVenture Museum should really be on display at Dayton. On the other hand, perhaps Steve Wittman's Chief Oshkosh/Buster midget racer on display at the NASM might be better located here in Oshkosh with his other racers.

For purely selfish reasons, I would love to have a P-47 on display in the Eagle Hangar here...

Maybe Chino already has the better collection with the P-26, a P-12, Stearman, B-50, etc? Too bad they didn't own the FW-190D. That might have gotten some Chino juices flowing!

I'm all for that, but I'm not sure they care enough to make the effort. They also had a couple of B-25s at one time. I saw the remains of one they cut up.

This is a great thread! You never know- something might yet come of it.

I would like to see Kermit's B-24 here in Wendover - about 13 B-24 groups trained here and we still have a whole flightline with original hangars for them! I know its dreaming but hey. . . . .

How about a B-52 to the Russian airforce museum and a Tu-95 Bear coming the other way!
Or perhap a Bear for the Cold war museum hear in the UK?

Yankee Air Museum trades their PB4Y for a Willow Run built B-24 (if any of the survivors were built there). That would be really cool!

I don't think any of the surviving B-24s are Willow Run models are they?

The one at Barksdale is as well, I believe.
