That photo should be submitted in some contemporary-modern art magazine somewhere. The machine-the color-the symmetry-the flow!
(I appreciate that anti-corrosion program that you have going on there, too!!)

I have the 4.3 in my crewcab S10, I use it to fetch parts for my 4 Fords...

Actually, with flat black you look for shiny areas. That is the leak showing its self.
And you have the other method, use the engine to corrosion proof the airframe-

A method first employed by the Brtitish motorcycle industry & subsequently copied & improved upon by Harley Davidson.

So, er, what happened to cause that oil slick btw?

Funny, we ran a race in the rain at Road Atlanta one year with Al Unser and Mario Andretti in the Formula 5000 cars. You could not have had a better wind tunnel "print" of the aerodynamic flow over the car than what was presented in the mud streams that day.

We took lots of pictures and then cleaned the cars before the competition could get a real close look.

The symmetry of that oil flow actually tells quite a tale, if you listen...

Find the Bald Eagle Aviation thread. All your questions will be answered.

ah, I see...

I also notice a rather spiffy looking red scaffold contraption for sitting on while buggering about with Merlins etc.... I could use one of those.. Where'd ya get it?

I also noticed something you guys seem to be lacking....

one of these splendid inventions:

Wish I had one of those bloody handles to help hold the prop dome :(

& no, it's not a swap opportunity.. ;)

Well, I do have an extra handle or two.
I have my eyes open for one of those but it hasn't fallen into my lap yet.
Of course the real next need is an air powered chain hoist.
It must take about 5 minutes to get the engine or prop up to altitude for install.
The scaffolding I got at Costco but have seem similar at Tractor Supply store.

ZRX61 & Rich....is that 'silver thing' a factory device for installing propellers on the North American production line? Or is it a field unit? I've seen such.
Thx,
VL

It's a Hamilton-Standard tool so works on just about any aircraft with their props
After you take the dome off it screws into the same threads & has a lock to hold the prop flat or vertical. Just lift the prop off, pull the lock to get the prop flat & then lay in on the ground without having to put a pile of rags etc under the blades :)
The handy part is that you can also turn the prop to line up the splines. Wish I'd had access to one of these things for the past 25 years.. They seem to be somewhat rare....
This one was thrown out by a shop that closed, spotted in the trash pile & promptly rescued. 8)

I wonder how many the 8th left behind in the UK after WWII.. :(

Reeeeeeally? Hmmm...well, that's not how I saw things just last week at Stead Field. These pictures were taken the morning after the arrivals of each aircraft..........

The Sea Fury (sorry about the shadow  )........

Image

And the Mustang parked right next to it........

There was another Mustang on the other side of the Fury as well, and it was very much like the one pictured here, but I just can't find that picture now...ugh!

Anyway, I was going to save those shots for the next time Bill Greenwood got all sassy about Merlin engines, but I figured now was as good a time as any.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, Matt & Vlado. I hope you steam-powered engine guys know I'm just yankin' your chain a little here. :D

Gary, that last pic is just another example of Merlin corrosion control.
