If I recall, this engine was a candidate for the B-36, but according to one book I read, P&W politics played a role in getting the R-4360 instead.
So, one was delivered to the Army and it was "dumped." So it either was scrapped or buried in a hole somewhere.

Lycoming actually built two engines. One was delivered to the Army, and then subsequently "dumped". The other was retained by Lycoming and is the one on display at Udvar-Hazy.
I think that "P&W politics" had less to do with the demise of the engine than its abysmal reliability.

Neat engine Kenlyco, off of a TU-95? This whole post was because someone said they liked radial engines and the bigger the better.
You do know the basic difference between an airline Captain and a turbine engine don't you?

Thought I throw a little variety in there.I worked for Lycoming many moons ago, dont remember seeing that one they must of did it in Williamsport. but I use to like to drive the M-1 around without the turret
