Here are some pics of the USAFM moving the A-25. From what I can tell, they drilled out rivets and sawed of the longerons that support the turret. Why one would cut these is a mystery to me. Some of the pics are better than others, but it's all I have.

Perhaps someone who has a better understanding of the process can comment. The chunk that is setting on the firewall probably weighs in excess of 2 tons, can't imagine thats very good for it.

Perhaps they were afraid that if they left it there any longer someone might go ahead and paint it as 'Memphis Belle'!

Well, admittedly it doesn't look like the most professional move I have ever seen. I am surprised to see that. I have seen hulks transported much worse than that but definitely not something that had undergone or was in the process of begin restored.

How were they planning to move it all along (after it was finished)? Same way?

:( Is this the one Mike Rawson was working on? I would have expected something a little more professional unless they are going to do airworthy repairs before it's displayed. Sure seems like a lot of extra work though.

This is what I'm talking about, when I say,

I've seen too many airplanes destroyed by the term "Static Restoration."

OK, without stirring any sh%$##$$t

Whom was now the legal owner at the time of the move, Mike or the museum ?

Eric, do you know Mike's feeling on this or any of his comments ?

I am no expert to juge if this is acceptable of not, I simply do not know enough.

However, if they can put it back the same way it was by re-rivetting & no damage was done, then I guess the question simply remains of transports cost saved vs. assembly & re-assembly $$.

I personnaly will pass any jugment until I hear how the person that spent years of hard work blood sweat & tears feels about this.

O.K. so I have got to ask, and this is not being a smart ass. I am not an aircraft mover and I know so. What is wrong with this move besides the fire wall issue. I am not sure why they did that either, but I also don't know another way to load it on there. Please be constructive, and maybe I can help fix this going forward.
