Me and mi' familia are heading to Atlantic City on Sunday and coming home Wed. What aviation spots are there to check out in this area?

Is Tom Duffy's collection open to the public? Can anyone help?

NAS Wildwood Museum. I believe they have several aircraft and warbirds.

Tom Duffy's collection is in Millville, there is also a small museum there. I do not know if his collection is open to the public or not though.

I havent been to either of these museums, I dont get down to South Jersey much, but I would like too!

The USS NJ BB-62 is also in Camden in the Deleware, it might be a quick ride on the AC expressway to go see it.

Also check out the Museum at Millville, it was a big P-47 training base during the war.

I highly recommend visiting the USS New Jersey....how many times will you get to do that? My brother and I got lost in the back half of her, looked around the gun turrets, saw where Halsey slept...amazing few hours spent in and on her....and located in a nice location near Camden...very worth while.

The FAA/NTSB test center is in Atlantic City and the Guard there might still be flying the F-16.

Slightly north is Lakehurst, NAS, site of the Hindenburg wreck. They also do a ton of test work there and the blimp hangars still stand.

Also in that neighborhood is McGuire AFB with its P-38 on a spike at the main traffic circle. They may have added a C-123 and other airlifters over the years. The Guard there should also still have its ex-Thunderbird F-105B on a spike.

If you're anywhere near Philly in your travels, the Franklin Institute (science museum) is a must-see with a nice hall of aviation, etc. There should also still be a 94th Aero Squadron restaurant in North Philly ...

The Air Victory Museum, in Lumberton, located at South Jersey Regional Airport (KVAY) is well worth a stop. I think they are open Sundays for the summer, buut closed on Mondays, maybe Tuesdays. Hours Weds through Sun are 10-4. $4 donation for adults.

Their annual "Living History Day" is this Saturday

The museum is easily accessible from the NJ Turnpike, at exit 4, and also Rt 295, exit 40.(Their website was usurped, so they are creating a new one, as it was basically stolen by some skanking other Air Victory Museum... They had had their site for years...)

USS New Jersey is good, and Info Age, a living museum of technology is near the shore, in Belmar, at the former US Army research site Camp Evans. This is the site where Marconi made the first trans-Atantic radio call, and also the Diana project bounced radio waves off the moon...www.infoage.org Open Sundays and Saturdays

Stop in Philadelphia, right across the river from the USS New Jersey in Camden, and see the USS Olympia and USS Becuna- the first the only Spanish American War warship left, I believe, and Admiral Dewey's Flagship at the Battle of Manila Bay.(Where he uttered those famous words, "You may fire when ready, Mr. Gridley") The Becuna is a Balao class WWII submarine, refitted with a modified sail conning tower after the war. Both are excellent museums to visit- and go to see the USS New Jersey while in the area!
