Vandals destroy vintage aircraft

Found this on my Avweb email this a.m.

"Vandals Destroy Rare Aircraft In UK

It had already suffered damage from a forced landing last Saturday, but was sitting harmlessly in a field (with its pilots in a local hospital) when vandals smashed the canopy and cockpit instruments and set fire to both wings. The Pilatus P2 was one of only two in the UK, and following the attack it appears unlikely it will ever fly again. "It just shows that there are a lot of morons in the world who have no respect for anything," Patrick Bryan, radio operator at Spanhoe Airfield (the aircraft's intended destination), told a local newspaper. The aircraft's pilot is believed to have owned the aircraft for just ten days prior to suffering the in-flight engine failure that led to the off-airport crash landing. The aircraft's landing gear collapsed as it came down in a wheat field and its propeller impacted the ground, but the Pilatus had come to rest on its belly and largely intact. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is seeking a report from the pilot who along with one passenger suffered only minor injuries."

My question is that isn't this an active crash investigation that should be cordoned off? And if so, wouldn't additional charges be warranted here such as interfering with a Gov investigation (UK equivalent) than just vandalism etc....?

The little bassards... ..I hope that through the grapevine, that these little bassards are tracked down by the Coppers, and they get to spend some time in a reform school , and have to work their little bassard fannies off to pay compensation. What a Frickin' bummer

Seeing how this occued in GB, I can see them blaming the plane for being somewhere it should not have been, and then fining the owner for cleanup costs.

What is a Pilatus P2? Is it really a historic or rare warbird? The ones here are expensive modern turboprops, very noisy on the ramp.

Wrong Pilatus Bill, you're thinking of the PC-7.

The P-2 was built as a trainer just after WWII, using some surplus German parts (Argus engine, Bf109 gear legs, etc) and is now fairly rare. There are a couple under restoration in the US, maybe 2 or 3 more flyers, and half a dozen other flyers spread across Europe.
