This is the prototype CRUSADER and is on long term loan from NASM to MoF. It's been undergoing a very slow restoration after the MoF let it sit outside for about 247 years unprotected from the elments. When it initially arrived @ MoF it had just finished a restoration by the retirees @ Chance Vought, but the expressed attitude of the then Head of Collections was'Oh, is it getting wet? isn't that just TOO bad'
And no, it will never fly again except in the belly of a FRED or MOOSE-

I can't believe that NASM would let ANY of their restored airplanes rest outside, unprotected from the elements. Why didn't NASM reclaim the aircraft? That just doesn't make sense to me. NASM is known for having very strict rules regarding caretaking of their artifacts.

The aircraft sat outside, near the tower @ KBFI for a very very long time, during that period I understand that there was a large amount of vertically suspended rope, and considerable bladder discharges on both sides of the issue, this, and other issues like the Wright Bros. papers have created a yawning chasim of strong dislike, distrust, and collective breath holding from both parties....
