I found this letter going through some old family stuff after my dad died. It was sent to my grandparents. I am not sure who wrote it. It was not signed. It was in a frame byitself, & appeared to be one of a multipage correspondence. My dad would let you know in a heart beat that he had been a "Fighter Pilot", but he did not really ever brag about it. After the war, he used his GI bill, & got more ratings. When the GI bill money ran out, he never flew as a pilot again. He told time me time & time again he wished he would have stayed in, at least with a Guard unit or something. He was proud of his duty, but you really had to know how to ask him about it to get him to talk about it. Back in the early 80's I got him to provide some information to Steven Blake (sp) for a story about the 363rd Fighter Group in WWII. Through Steven's effort, there were several of Dad's fellow pilots that provided info for this series of stories. This led to reunions, then eventually a book "363rd Fighter Group In WWII" was written by Kent Miller, & Dad contributed some to it. He was so proud that some of his accounts were published in the book.I don't know if he got the 9th Oak Leaf Cluster.
