Master patterns

Here are some examples of a few master patterns that I have been, or still am, working on:

These are the pattern wing set for a 1/72 scale Blackburn B.2 bi-plane for Aeroclub models.

These are the master pattern parts for a 1/144 scale Embrerer EMB-190 for Welsh Models.

Very nice work and it is nice to see classic master modeler as well it is almost all switched to the 3D printing.

Mini update. First of all, thank you to everyone who assisted me with the 20mm ammunition information, especially Russel camp (Ruzlkampf), who very kindly sent me his spare stock of various ammunition. Part of this hoard contained some 1/35 FLAK 43 shells, which I have cut down and modified into 1/32 20mm ammunition. I have been filling and refining the aerofoil shape of the wing, which I am now satisfied with. The next job shall be finishing off the various openings to thier finished size, and the start of scratch building the four Hispano V cannons and associated ammunition tanks.

Here are the cut down and modified 1/35 FLAK 43 shells (at right) that have been made into 1/32 20mm ammunition (at left - I shall need 12 copies of these). They are fractionally larger in diameter than I would really like, but should look OK when assembled in the ammunition tanks.

How do you prepare to start one of these projects? Do you have scale drawings, or...? How do you check your work for accuracy?

Thanks guys for your feedback (sorry for the delay).

Django: It takes a long time (for me, at least! :lol:

) to make these patterns. I use whatever plans I can lay my hands on - the nore accurate, the better. For accuracy, I spend an inordinate amount of time studyin as many photographs as I can, and I constantly compare these to the drawings. I also use manufactures dimensions to check the drawings against (starting point).

MazdaP5: I have used some GW greenstuff, but not on this pattern. I find it softer than Milliput and theregore easier to work. However, I still prefer Milliput overall.

Clipper 314: Mike, this is my hobby, but it often feels like a full time job

Canso42: Doug, the battleship is the Revell 1/720 scale Bismark.
