Those are indeed Kermit's airplanes. Carl is more or less the broker/caretaker for them. Interested parties should contact Carl. Neal, I'll be happy to forward his contact information to you if you want to start on that B-29 project you've always wanted. :lol:

Gen. Paul Tibbets reminiscing in the cockpit of the B29 Fertile Myrtle at the Weeks Air Museum 1999. My wife and I organized and conducted visits for the General in Florida for several years.

The American Air Museum owned this during that time but I'm confused because it says it was open stored from 1977-1989. Was it taken out storage during that time for various airshows? Kermit Weeks bought it from that organization in 1984 but he wasn't able to complete the transfer flight.


I'm no expert on F.M., but from what I remember from memory is when they say "open storage", they really mean it was just parked out on the tarmac at Oakland, not in a hangar. I think it's a misnomer. I believe it was flown for a limited amount of airshows during that time. IIRC, because it was kept outside, it's condition deteriorated and it got some corrosion. I believe this was one of the main reasons that it was not ferried to Kermit's place, because he deemed it too unsafe. Hopefully, someone more can verify/fill in the details here.


Deemed it? Experienced it! I read in Air Classics or Warbirds Intl that Kermit tried to fly it out of Oakland airport but engine problems ocurred and he almost crashed in downtown Oakland, thankfully getting safely down back at Oakland.

I'm very interested to know if anyone knows where the
filming location was for the airport where "Fertile
Myrtle" is seen in the Last Flight of Noah's Ark. I thought
it was out Victorville somewhere?

As much as I like the look of the plane with turrets, Fertile Myrtle would be more accurate (in her test drop role) without them...
