On another note.....the event appeared to be successful for the Museums involved and there was quite an array of aircraft. Every year it gets better.

It was a same that two of the four aircraft scheduled to give rides were "grounded" - the C-47 and mine. But the B-25 and the Huey did yeoman's work to fill in the gap. Both looked great doing their passes at VFM hangar.

Personally I would like thank RickH and the rest of the CF crew for allowing me to get in the air for a bit. The Huey was a thrill to be in and what a fun pass and pitch out to land !!!! Thank you so much, guys, it was much appreciated.

Re this "strike" in all seriousness it is beginning to look like a piece of metal was kicked up off runway on takeoff. Although the blade is toast, there is probably very little metal mass lost so that may account for the lack of vibration or rpm change enroute.

Depending on where on the blade the damage is, the removal of damage is very liberal and still have a salvagable blade. It look knarley, but is servicable.

We had a great time in Ft Worth with the OV-10 Bronco Association ! Enjoyed seeing everyone and thanks to those who supported our efforts by flying with us. Glad everyone had a good time with the Huey.

Karen, the last time I saw an aluminum prop that had that kind of damage, it was on a boat that hit an oyster reef ! Flying a little low were we ? Sorry you had the difficulty but enjoyed spending time with you this weekend.

Great video, Zane ! Thanks again for flying with us !

Karen, looking at the damage to that blade it looks like a cable strike. I sure am glad other than the damage, it didn't ruin your day in a very BAD way. Also I would have to call that one a prop strike looking at your pics, & I suggest that it should be treated that way. These type deals don't always show up right away (metal in the filter, vibration, etc...), but tend to rear their ugly head later. Glad you are ok. Stuff can be fixed, good folks can't be replaced.

Glad to see the WIXers that we're out there had a good time. And glad you liked the low pass Zane. I pulled many people off that we're amazed by the fact our pilot was flying that fast down that low.

Thanks to all those who flew.

Robbie,,,thanks for your words...that thought was initially brought up and the cable strike was discussed. But the only time I was close to a cable was on landing at Meacham and I turned inside of the cables/wires kinda running parallel to base leg. Despite what RickH says I wasn't doing the low show cross country  :P

Just a question for you LadyO2Pilot, as I'm not familiar with the O-2's flight manual, but is it possible to overrotate on takeoff or have too high an angle of attack on landing to get a rear prop strike on the runway? Just curious.

Also, have you been to any joint use or military airfields where arresting gear cables are strewn across the runway for military aircraft?

Hi gang,

I've posted my huge set of photos in the WIX Photo Gallery section, so as not to clog this thread up. Not the best pics I've ever taken, but they'll do. 56K download is not advised... :P

Zane is right. I was a VERY busy guy this weekend. I was there for 11 hours on Friday and 12 hours on Saturday, sweating like a draft horse the entire time. I think I spent a total of about 10 hours inside the B-17 doing tour guide duty, about 3 hours as a ramp gate guard, and another 3 hours or so working on the ramp. Yep, I'm tired! :(

Ztex and RickH: It was great to meet you both in person for the first time. :D

Collings guys: Thanks for bringing the Huey! I really enjoyed seeing it up close and watching the "spirited" passes down Runway 16 on Saturday! 8)

Cripes A Mighty: I'm sorry we didn't hook up. While you were shooting the photos of the Huey taking off, I was just on the other side of it! You can see my legs under the Huey in one of the shots. :? :x

LadyO2Pilot: Karen, I'm really bummed about your prop damage  , and I hope you'll be able to get it repaired quickly and with minimal expense. It was nice to see you again, and I look forward to the next time! :D

To everyone who was able to spend some time with us this weekend, I offer a big ol' Texas-sized THANKS!!! :D

See y'all next time!

How about a taxiway light?

Yes to military airfield but no to arresting gear and I've done 3 shows since then and at least 6 preflights.....and I have hit no taxiway or landing lights and have gone no where near grassy areas except on foot...LOL

The rear engine is higher than the front and if I got it so nose high to hit the blade the booms would go over center and drop to the ground. Several people were watching take off and landing and no one saw that scenario.

There has been construction at our field and I have just been talking to some here that feel it was probably some metal on the runway.....but we will probably never know for sure. The fix will either be time consuming and a bit expensive or very very expensive. Will just have to see how it turns out.
