BTW, if anybody watch "Men of the Fighting Lady" this past weekend, there is a crash sequence when the blind pilot lands on the carrier. The approach and touch down is an F9F panther, but it quickly cuts to a landing mishap where an FJ-1 Fury lands hard and the left (port for you swabbies!)wing collapses and she stops as a pile of junk, all in technicolor.

That crash was pretty spectacular. But I heard........darn what is the guys name that announces the movies on TCM.....say that they hand painted every frame in that scene.

Robert Osborn is the host's name, but the crash he is refering to is when "Dobson" (Keenan Wynne) crashes on the fantail. That shot was the colorized one and has been used in many films since including "The Hunt for Red October".
Tte crash of the FJ-1 Fury near the end of the film is when the blind pilot (Dewey Martin) lands on the ship with the help of Thayer (Van Johnson) flying next to him, guiding him in.

The film has great color footage of carrier ops similar to "The Bridges at Toko Ri".

Dash one, huh? The dash 4 model was a much sleeker aircraft with a bigger intake very much like early Sabres. The third issue of Warbird Digest had a feature on the only airworthy FJ-4. I found it pretty eductional since I was basically clueless to the existence of the FJ anyway. That thing in the photo looks like a hot dog wrapper about to blow up in a microwave!
