I will be attending my 19th 500 (by the way I'm only 28). My Grandfather (Lt. Col. Richard K. Williams, 9AFSC, still with us at 94yrs old) has had the same tickets since 1935.
Tickets are still available (the kind of crappy ones). If you haven't been there it is something to see...and the best flys of any sporting event.
Lodging may be a little dicey this late but if you stay outside the city you can find hotels (we stay in Anderson) about an hour north west of the city.
Speaking of Anderson, if you are a race fan Anderson Speedway has the Little 500 on Saturday night at 8pm. The speedway is a 1/4 mile high banked asphalt oval and they start 11 rows of 3 USAC wingless sprint cars running 500 laps. Really something to see.
If you need any info PM me.

Mark P.

Yeah, good luck with sleeping quarters. It isn't impossible, but rooms are hard to find. A few years back I found one room on Saturday night for $80. You can get lucky, it just might take a while to find. Worth the try - Indy is a must do at least once!

Mark:

What do you mean "wingless sprint cars" :?: There is no such thing! There are only sprint cars and winged sprint cars. I watched the sprint cars Wednesday night run at Anderson. I help a friend with his winged sprint car in the ASCS series.

The Little 500 is also a must see. Lots of action. Most times, lots of carnage. There is an alternative Saturday night. The midgets run the Night Before the 500 at O'reilly Raceway Park Sat night (if you're going to throw in a joke, make it a good one - I've heard 'em all). I try to alternate years in going to the Little 500 and the Night Before. Either show is great.

I have been to Indy once before and loved it! I am going again in 2011 for the 100th anniversary. Like another poster mentioned, lodging would be the hardest thing to come buy. I'm sure you could find a ticket or two without a problem. If you don't make it this year, at least go sometime before you're gone. It is a really great experience.

Yeah both the Little 500 and the Night Before are great additions to a fabulous weekend of racing. The first time I ran the midget race at IRP, ooops "ORP" was in a 1932 Curtis Offy. What a gas! First time in a midget (being a road racer) and I'd love to see that video. I am surprised I'm still here. The fans loved it though.

Get to the Speedway at least one time, it is truly worth th eexperience. 8)

There is also the "Hoosier Hundred" at the Indiana Fairgrounds as well.

On a sad note...a track worker was killed at the Little 500 this weekend, hit by a passing race car while cleaning up an accident in turns one and two. The "official" specifics are sketchy, I didn't see it happen just saw the EMTs rushing to help.

May he race in peace.

Sadness, as they are all volunteers that absolutely love racing. I never met one who wasn't just apesh*t about hanging around with the teams and drivers, especially at this level. My prayers to the family.

The Hoosier Hundred was always a great show. 1500 pound front engine no wings action! Too bad no more four cam Fords and turbo Offy's. One of my last was when Al Unser Sr., Mario and Jackie Howerton (Andy Granatelli's Offy) ran nose to tail for nearly the full 100 miles.

Big time fun!

Disregard autograph of Johnny "The Golden Greek" Capels, Chief Mechanic, he gave me the photo as a gift after the season. This is what Champ Dirt Cars are about!
