It's really nice when they get four up up, ie: P-51, F-86, F-4, F-15, etc. Really shows the development of military aircraft.

Great example of an outstanding HF, Jerry. FOUR aircraft and FOUR different eras.

I easily attend 20-25 flyins and air shows each year. I have yet to grow weary of them. I always find it amazing that besides the old and the new being able to fly together at the same speeds, but to see the side by side differences of the aircraft. The P-51 next to the larger jets shows a nice size comparison, that you just wouldn't see on the ground.

Hellcat, you should have made this one a poll.

I'm also a huge fan of the Heritage Flights, although I do prefer it when there are 3 or 4 aircraft rather than just a pair. One of the best I've seen was at Sun 'n Fun a few years back, with P-38, F-86, F-4 and F-16 representing WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the modern era. Now that's history!

I've not been over-impressed by the various Legacy Flights I've seen. They rarely seem to tuck in as tight as the AF folks do in the Heritage Flights, and once you've seen a Hornet, you've seen it. I remember the days when the Navy had lots of interesting aircraft - F-4s, F-14s, A-6s, A-7s............... Now it's just Hornets these days. :(

I like them as well. I The best two I saw were the Glacier Girl, F-86, and the F-22 at Oshkosh, and the F-22 with three blue nose P-51's .

I happen to like Heritage Flights a lot... I think it's a great thing to show history and traditions, and to show folks how things have changed, and how they are still the same.

Love 'em both :P

Best I've seen yet was Vlado with Moonbeam, the F-4 and something new like an F-15 (?) at Dayton last year. Not into the new jets much. When they played Taps over the intercom at the Gathering of Corsairs a few years back, I don't believe there was a dry eye at the place! Taps always gives me a lump in the throat :(

I agree 100% with Ryan! The first time I saw a Heritage Flight it brought tears to my eyes (but then, I'm an overly-emotional female! ). I never get tired of them...........

You forgot the H-34! I really would love to see an H-37 restored to flying status......

I saw my first Heritage Flight this weekend and I must admit I choked up a bit and so did quite a few folks around me.

I like them too. History, connection with the people who sacrificed in the past are part of the military ethos of the present.

It's nice to see 3-4 generations of fighters up there. It's not possible but too bad you can't have a 1st generation fighter with them (too slow I imagine).

I like the idea of a bomber flight as well although there aren't too many B-36/B-47's flying :)

I like the heritage flights too. And they show the younger generations the link between the past and the present.

I was at the Altus AFB airshow a few weeks ago and saw a neat heritage flight with a C-47 and a C-17. I wish I had been able to take some pictures.

I like them! The best one by far was at Barksdale with Thunderbird and a B-52. 8)

The one I am waiting for is after "FIFI" takes to the air again:

B-29/B-52H/B-1B/B-2A

I know that it will have to be a rather "loose" formation, but it would be fantastic!

:D

I do like the idea of having more first-generation jets in the flights, and I think that the Air Force and Navy should step up and operate such types that have proven too troublesome for private operators to afford easily, such as F-84, F9F, etc. Like what the RAF used to do with its old-jet flight and the RN still does with its Sea Hawk. Then at least the flights would include a component that isn't seen elsewhere or by itself.

Seeing the multiple generations of fighters in the sky together isn't really necessary for me to appreciate the comparison, I find that I am able to do that just as well when they fly individually -- or better, since they can really show what they can do then rather than just hold a formation with a dissimilar aircraft.

I consider the musical accompaniment sappy and annoying, and am more likely to gag than choke up, but I guess I'm just not into that stuff.
