B-29 Flight Engineers' memories & notes

Sun May 04, 2008 5:11 am

G'day all,
I'm working on a project looking at the experience of Boeing B-29 Superfortress Flight Engineers - tellingly, as usual, pilot accounts outrank the FE experience accounts 100/1 it seems, and as we know well at WIX, the B-29 FE was very important.

Yes, I'm talking to Gary and a certain B29FE here, but further input and maybe a discussion would be great.

Questions:

1. What was unique (as against previous flight engineer jobs) to the B-29 FE's job?

2. How did they train?

3. What role did they have in the early developments?

4. Anyone got any first hand W.W.II FE accounts?

5. Any illustrations welcome

Good to see posts here, or you can send me a PM or e-mail on JKightly AT yahoo.com.au - swapping the space ands 'AT' for @ - ta!

Thanks,
