Warbird Information Exchange

Flying out of both SNA and LGB in that time period, I'd often head to Chino to satisfy my warbird fix. I've got more pictures but, these twelve are a start. Any info/intel on unidentified aircraft including current status is greatly appreciated. Here we go:

1. Unidentified B-17


2. Unidentified TBM/TBF and P-38, 44-27231 today flying as "Ruff Stuff."


3. Unidentified P-51. Appears to be N51JW.


4. Unidentified A-26. OUCH! Gonna take more than a hammer and body dolly to straighten that one out!


5. Former Tallichet, now Weeks B-24. Sure would like to see it in the air again.


6. Former Tallichet, now Weeks B-26 under restoration.


7.POF back lot.


8. Unidentified Sikorsky S-51. Can't read the 'N' number.


9. Unidentified SNJ/T6 and an unidentified long-haired, skinny guy...oh wait... that's me.


10. Unidentified F-86. Looks like the last three might be 670, 870???


11. POF B-17.


12. Unidentified P-51.

I think the R-4 is in Canada and was traded for the Diemert Val?

The silver 17 was David Tallechets to fly(I think it belonged to the airforce).The bird is at the armaments museum in Fla. now.David picked up N3703G a little later and gave this one back to the airforce.

B-26 looks like the K that Ted Stewart crashed when the prop (s) went into flat pitch (or reverse).

Isnt that CL-13A N8687D.......flown by Hoover? Rebuilt at the Penhall shops.

The P-51 with the Checkered Nose looks like the old "Mustangs Flying Club" P-51, soon to be destroyed.......

Blue #20 Mustang was Jon Wright"s Phillipine Mustang. IIRC he had engine problems near Reno, engine restarted at high power at slow speed and it torgue rolled over into the ground killing him and his wife.
I got a good deal of time driving and riding in the camo truck.
Chino as it was when I 1st started hanging out there.
The SNJ looks like the Museum's.

Jack, is this the same Ted Stewart I'm thinking of. The same one who tore up another A-26 some 20 years later?

I think Ted only crashed one Wally McDonald's?).
BTW he's a great guy and flew with us alot and got Wayne ready
for his B-25 type check. He and his dad at one time operated a Martin 404
