Any guesses as to owner and future? I haven't a clue.

Well, I think it's an error. Several other databases show N324DC still registered to a Aviat/Pitts S-2C that was built last year and does not show any removal of that certificate for any reason in the FAA database, so I wonder what the deal is.

http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/N324DC.html

F-16.net shows the aircraft as having last been reported at Anniston, AL in 2000.

Here's another link that seems to give Dan's post some more legs:

http://www.landings.com/evird.acgi?pass ... mber=324dc

The Pitts referred to is ser# 6076, which now has reg # N454JM.

So the question is, who's initials are DC?

Both of these places were selling it at one time or another I think:

http://www.airwarbirds.com/flymarket.html

I recall the plane being located in the St. Louis area.

Note that there is no airworthiness certificate.

I *think* that UsedTowers.com was the same company that had the former Blue Angels F/A-18A listed on eBay a couple of years ago. I checked their other auction listings and they were nearly all commercial radio towers and related stuff. I recall them having some MiG fighters listed as well.

Cheers!

F-16.net posted this front page story...

http://www.f-16.net/news_article2864.html

Quote:
April 29, 2008 (by Jon Somerville) - It appears that F-16A #78-0061 has been assigned civil registry N324DC. It is highly unlikely that this aircraft is being used by Lockheed-Martin or NASA. So who owns this aircraft?

F-16A #78-0061 when it was used for BDRT with the Alabama ANG.
Although it has not been exactly determined at this point who owns USAF serial #78-0061, but there is one logical company. Air Capitol Warbirds LLC in Newton, Kansas had acquired two unusual fast jets making history as the first true private owners of an F-16 and an F/A-18A. The history of the F/A-18 is well known. It is BuNo 161973 and at one time was the lead aircraft for the Blue Angles.

F-16A #78-0061, one of the very first early F-16s ever manufactured, has had a long history but has only ever served with two units. Its first assignment was at MacDill AFB, Florida with the 61st Tactical Fighter Training Squadron where it became an aircraft to train pilots in the F-16. Logically with its serial ending in 61, it was chosen to be the flag ship aircraft for the 61st TFTS. Around October of 1988 the aircraft moved to the Alabama ANG where it served under the 160th TFS/FS till around May of 1994. It remained with the Alabama ANG but for ground instruction for Battle Damage Repair Training (BDRT). From there it went to the Anniston Alabama Army National Guard training site where it is believed to be display as a preserved aircraft.

A client is said to have placed a $100,000 deposit on the F-16. But it is important to note that this is only speculation that the F-16 owned by Air Capital Warbirds is aircraft #78-0061. What is clear is that Air Capital Warbirds will sell the aircraft, either as it is or as restored. F-16A #78-0061 with civil registry N324DC is not the first F-16 to carry civil registration but looks like it is the first outside of major organizations such as NASA and Lockheed-Martin. Where this F-16 will end up at this point is a complete mystery.

The wreckage of F-16C #89-2110 is also owned by Air Capitol Warbirds. It was written-off in a mishap on April 24, 1992 and later went through Hurricane Andrew while stored at Homested AFB, Florida. They took possession of this airframe in 2002. It is questionable if this airframe will be restored. Perhaps will be used for spare parts. It is only speculation, but logical to take two aircraft to rebuild one.

I'd heard that "Air Capitol Warbirds" had gone the way of the DoDo several years ago.

F/A-18 161973 is in the yard about a mile east of Mojave Airport on Route 58. It has been there since Aug03 at least and was still there earlier this month.

You're right, Randy they've been gone for a while. Their dealings weren't exactly above board. The F-18 was acquired through the Robbins DRMO and it wasn't demilled, per se,... but, it was definitely stripped, nothing but an airframe. They advertised that while it wasn't complete, all components could be available . Turned out that it was actually owned by Rich Kilby of Mojave and he didn't know that they were trying to sell it until it hit Ebay. Rich intended to put it in a museum that he was putting together out at Mojave. Guess that is where it is now.

Most of the TA-4 projects that are floating around came out of Air Capital Warbirds, the most complete being the example owned by ATAC. It was purchased by them from Curt Johnson after he paid ACW to restore it. That was back in 2001 or so. ATAC is still trying to sort out what was done to resurrect it and it is still not ready to fly.

ACW - one owner seem to be more into the miller high life than aviation. The other company is still moving forward and has been since 1992.

Richard Kilby, no comment......

This ACW company was on the leading edge, then "pissed" it away!!!!!

BTW .... a good friend says that www.airwarbirds.com is for sale.

ATAC aircraft ...... always more to a story than what is on the surface. Once I am allowed to release information I will.
