I figured it was Bill's Spitfire - and I'm glad everyone here has shown such restraint in discussing the issue (nobody hollering at him to post the details, etc.). It was a relief to hear that no one was hurt and that the damage can be repaired.

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions about the Spit brakes that are being "examined ". Doubt if they were even applied until after impact as Bill couldn't see anything in front of him as he was rolling out.

I second that, based on what I saw Saturday. It would have been impossible to stop even if the Spit had F1 racecar brakes.

As I expressed in another thread and as have so many in this thread, I'm extremely glad there were no bodily injuries.

All those that can should rally around these men and aircraft to return them to flight.

The newspaper story, Hou Chronicle is about half correct. The Hurricane restoration was long and expensive, and everyone is disappointed. It was a landing rollout accident, I didn't taxi into the Hurricane. I wish it had only been at taxi speed as the damage would have likely been less, except I would have been using some power to taxi whereas here the engine was at idle, throttle closed, since before touchdown. And I don't think it has anything to do with Spitfire brakes as I wasn't using them at that point.. I had not yet reached the spot where I needed to slow and turn off the runway. Also there was no "dogfight" in the air. We were doing low passes in trail, I was last of the fighters, behind the Hurricane, in front of the bombers. The one comment critical of the Museum's "dogfight policy" is factually wrong, as well as in poor taste.

Bill, you've been gone from here for a while, but in some circles the paper is referred to as the Houston Comical and not looked at with high regard. There are much better sources for the news around here !

I'm very glad you and the other pilot are ok. I've also very sorry to hear about this accident, I can't even begin imagine what it is like.

I have to defend the Houston Barnacle here because they do consistantly get one thing right...the date on the front page! I don't place my trust in anything after that point...

Typical of many newspaper stories on many subjects. :x

Bill, it's a real shame the accident happened, but like the rest of the WIX community, I'm glad that no one was injured, and I'm glad that the damage to both airplanes is reparable. Please keep us informed as to how things are progressing, within the limits of good sense.

In the mean time, you can still chat with us about the usual stuff!

Cheers!
